A debate on business strategies in nutrition

The Casa Llotja de Mar will be hosting on the 18th of June at 18.30 h a debate in which a group of experts in nutrition and health from the public sector and the industry will be discussing new business strategies that are being carried out in this field, such as the emergence of the so called "functional foods". This activity is framed within a series of scientific debates that under the title , are jointly organised by the Barcelona Science Park and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.

“Debate on Science” is an activity open to all those individuals interested in debating current scientific issues of interest with specialists in these areas. The objective of these sessions is to encourage discussion surrounding science, and specifically the new paths opened by multidisciplinary research.

The series are also intended to become a meeting point where representatives from the business sector, the administration, the scientific community and society in general may share their experiences and views, comparing their different points of view in relation to these topics.

The debate to be held on the 1ith of June will host the presence of M. Carmen Vidal, professor of Nutrition and Bromatology of the University of Barcelona; Montserrat Rivero, scientific director of the Ordesa Business Group; Toni Mateos, director of Nutrition and Regulations of Danone; Salvador Hernández, former director of R&D of the Gallina Blanca company; Ana Palencia, director of the firm Unilever; and Victòria Castell, head of the Risk Assessment Area of the Catalan Agency for Food Safety. The session will be moderated by Jesús Purroy, director of Research and Innovation at the Barcelona Science Park.

As in past editions, the cycle of series is presented in presented in a format that is distant to that of classical seminars, addressing specific questions and potentiating the presentation of new points of views. To dynamize the debates, an electronic system to vote will be used which will facilitate interaction with the attendees, in such a way that these may express their opinion regarding the questions posed during the discussion.

This upcoming debate is the second one conducted this year as part of the series of sessions, and the third edition of the event. The previous session was held on April 15 and was addressed at discussing the application of biotechnology to cosmetics. The next debate will be held on October 15 and will address the subject of “individualised “medicine. The event is free admission.
