Two departments of the IBMB, part of the CSIC, join the PCB

As the result of an agreement signed on 19th June between the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC, Spanish Council for Scientific Research), 100 researchers and support staff from the latter have moved five of their laboratories into the Modular Building of the Parc Científic de Barcelona, specifically into the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona (IRBB-PCB), where they occupy 900m2. These researchers are from two departments of the Institut de Biologia Molecular de Barcelona (IBMB, Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona), part of the CSIC.

One of the departments relocated is that of Molecular and Cellular Biology, which includes the research groups directed by Ferran Azorín, Jordi Bernués, Marian Martínez Balbás and Josep Portugal, who work in gene expression, and Jordi Casanova, Sergio González, Gerardo Jiménez, Elisa Martí and Enrique Martin Blanco, who focus on developmental biology.

The second department to have moved is that of Structural Biology, which includes the groups led by the Miquel Coll, Xavier Gomis, Ignasi Fita and Núria Verdaguer. The relocation of these groups into the Modular Building has coincided with the extension of the Core Scientific Services (SCC-PCB), which now include a new Microscopy Facility, a Protein Puification Service and a Drosophila Section with a Magnification Facility, a Kitchen and a Climatic Chamber.
