The UB ranked as the university with the highest scientific production in chemistry in Spain

The Universitat de Barcelona (UB, University of Barcelona) is the most productive university in Spain in terms of scientific articles (2,776) and citations (23,497) in chemistry. This is the result of an international ranking of the most active research centres in chemistry (1991-2001) produced by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) of Philadelphia (USA).

The scientific and chemical data on productivity form part of the Essential Science Indicators, explained in the article “The ISI analyses the prestige of scientific institutes: the case of chemistry”, published by the journal of the Catalan Chemical Society (2003) and signed by researchers Gregori València and Gemma Arsequell (IIQAB-CSIC) and Montserrat Martinez (CID-CSIC).

In the report, the ISI reviews the scientific production of 69,000 centres from around the world that have published studies on chemistry. However, the definitive list gives priority to 1% of the total number of most actives institutions (690). These include 23 Spanish institutions ranked on the basis of productivity criteria.
