The PCB hosts the I Conference on Nanotechnology and Sustainability

The PCB will be hosting the I Conference entitled "Safety and sustainability in the next-coming nanotechnological world" this next Wednesday, the 27th of May, from 10.30 to 14h h, at the Aula Fèlix Serratosa. The event has been jointly organised by the Experimental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology Unit of the PCB and the Toxicology Unit of the Pharmacy Faculty at the University of Barcelona , and has the support from the Ministry of Science and Innovation that promotes the project "Nanosost: towards sustainable, responsible and safe nanotechnologies", in which besides CERETOX, other fifteen technological centres, research institutes and Spanish companies are taking part.

The aim of this gathering is to make public the research currently underway in the field of nanotechnologies and to facilitate the exchange of opinions and thoughts surrounding the potential risks that nanotechnologies entail as well as the need to set in place the scientific basis that will ensure their safe use.

The welcoming ceremony and presentation will include speeches from Fernando Albericio, director general of the PCB; and Miquel Borràs, director of the Experimental and Ecotoxicology Unit at the PCB (UTOX) and the CERETOX (Centre for Research in Toxicology).

Among the invited scientists special mention must be made to Enrico Sabbioni from Ispra (Italy) who held the post of scientific officer at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) at the European Commission and founder and director of INATOX (In vitro NanoToxicology research at the JRC).

Other participating lecturers include Julià Sampere from the Chemical Institute of Sarrià (IQS), and coordinator of the Nanosost project; Álvaro Mata, head of the at the Barcelona Science Park; and Enrique Navarro, from The Ecology Institute of the Pyrenees (CSIC).

Attendance to this conference is free of charge but prior registration is required.
