Spanish science and technology parks met in Las Palmas

Representatives of 64 Spanish science and technology parks met on 24 and 25 October in Gran Canaria as part of the second annual assembly of the Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE). One of the most significant agreements adopted at this meeting, which was attended by Maria Terrades, CEO of the Barcelona Science Park, was the creation of a working group to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at all member parks.

The Canarian Science and Technology Park Foundation of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (FCPCT) hosted the Annual Assembly of the Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE) for the first time, which last Thursday brought together representatives of the 64 science and technology parks that belong to the association.

One of the most important agreements adopted at the meeting was the creation of a working group to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations in all APTE member parks. In this second APTE General Assembly of 2019, it was also agreed to sign an agreement with Telefónica for the creation of a blockchain network, which substantially improves the service that the parks offer to the companies they host. The agreement with Telefónica includes an initial three-month trial period.

After Thursday’s workday, representatives of APTE member science and technology parks visited the Spanish Bank of Algae (BEA) on Friday – a national R&D&I service managed by the Canarian Science and Technology Park Foundation –as well as the facilities of the University Institute of Aquaculture and Sustainable Marine Ecosystems (IU-ECOAQUA) in Taliarte.
