The University of Barcelona will be receiving an additional 13.090 million Euros allocated to the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB), as a result of a mutual agreement reached between the government of the Generalitat and the government of Spain. Specifically, the Bilateral Commission formed by Generalitat-State, chaired by the Councillor of Home Affairs, Institutional Relations and Participation, Joan Saura, and the Minister of Public Administration, Elena Salgado, has approved a number of projects to be carried out in Catalonia throughout 2009 and which will be publically funded by the State for a total of 800.13 million Euros, an additional budget item that has been added to the original amount forecasted in the General State Budgets for the current year.

Akira Suzuki, emeritus professor at the University of Hokkaido, Sapporo (Japan), recently visited Barcelona to give a paper entitled Cross-Coupling Reactions of Organoboron Compounds-Suzuki Coupling. The visit was organised by the Barcelona Science Park, the Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute and the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of Barcelona. The conference was held in the main lecture hall of the Faculty of Chemistry, where attendance was high.
