IBEC joins with Avinent to create prostheses that become real bone Blog Post

Advances in 3D bioprinted prostheses that are truly incorporated into the body –with their own blood vessels and sensitivity– are becoming increasingly more remarkable. This has been demonstrated by Avinent Implant System and the Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies group led by Elisabeth Engell at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), that are jointly developing an ambitious project to create 3D printed pieces from biomaterials.

Four experts of renowned prestige in this field –including Dr. Eliandre de Oliveira, head of the PCB’s Proteomics Platform– will lead the debate.

 

Researchers find the genetic basis psychiatric disorders have in common Blog Post

Psychiatric disorders share a great genetic subsceptibility, while non-psychiatric neurological disorders –such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s- have a more specific genetic, according to an article the journal Science has published. The work is the most ambitious and extense on shared genetic factors in brain disorders. In this multicentre study –driven by Verneri Anttila, Aiden Corvi and Ben Neale from the Brainstorm Consortium– participate the lecturers Bru Cormand and Raquel Rabionet, from the Faculty of Biology and members of the Institute of Biomedicine of the UB (IBUB) in the Barcelona Science Park, among more than 500 experts from around the world. 

 

The Fem Talent 2018 Awards recognize Judit Anido and ProteoDesign Blog Post

Two companies based in the Barcelona Science Park have been recognized in this year’s edition of the Fem Talent awards. Dr Judit Anido, co-founder and CEO of Mosaic Biomedicals, has received the “Emerging Talent” award, and the company ProteoDesign –created by Silvia Frutos, Miquel Vila-Perelló, Silvia Frutos, Marc Montserrat and Tom W. Muir– has been a finalist in the ‘Organisation with Fem Talent Values’ category.

 

Barcelona Science Park to take part in 1st ENABLE symposium Blog Post

The Barcelona Science Park (Parc Científic de Barcelona, PCB) will be well represented at the first ENABLE symposium, a three-day international biomedical event organised by doctoral students and postdoctoral scientists from all over the world to underpin their professional futures in the European setting. The project is coordinated by the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (Institut de Recerca Biomèdica, IRB Barcelona) from its headquarters at the PCB and has been awarded €500,000 by the Horizon 2020 SwafS – Celebrating European Science programme. 

 

ERC Starting Grant for IBEC researcher Lorenzo Albertazzi and IRB scientist Fran Supek Blog Post

The European Research Council (ERC) will award its ERC Starting Grants, worth a total of €605 million, to 406 early-career researchers throughout Europe. IBEC researcher Lorenzo Albertazzi and IRB Barcelona researcher Fran Supek at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) are among this year’s awardees by these grants, which reward researchers with 2-7 seven years of experience since completion of the PhD (or equivalent degree), a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal.

 

Seminar on CDTI Instruments to fund R&D&i projects and startups Blog Post

On July 25 the Barcelona Science Park – in collaboration with the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), Biocat and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG)- organizes a seminar to introduce the different instruments that the CDTI has to fund R&D&i projects and to present the initiatives of its programs for this 2017 in the healthcare sector.

Esteve and Farmamundi have renewed their collaboration agreement once again, under which the laboratory participates as a member of the organization’s emergency fund and, at the same time, as a provider of medicines. The medical and pharmaceutical material donated by esteve in 2016 were distributed to hospitals, clinics, health centers, welcome centers for sick people, refugee camps, orphanages and nursing homes in 23 countries.
