In the international work, focused on the analysis of common genetic migraine variants on people, there is the participation of Professor Bru Cormand and the collaborator Cèlia Sintas, from the Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics and the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB), located at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB).

 

New evidence on molecular mechanisms involved in psoriasis outset Blog Post

Two translational research studies published in the high impact scientific magazines Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Journal of Investigative Dermatology have described new immunologic mechanisms in psoriasis, a chronic cutaneous inflammatory disease which affects around the 2% of the population. The studies have been led by Lluís Francesc Santamaria, Director of the group of Translationary Immunology of the University of Barcelona (UB) based at the Barcelona Science Park, together with researchers of the Hospital del Mar and the Municipal Institute for Medical Research, among others.

Mundipharma its independent associated company Purdue Pharma today announced that, following completion of Phase II studies, they have exercised their option and taken over full responsibility from Laboratorios Esteve for the clinical, regulatory and commercial development of a potential first-in-class sigma-1 antagonist (AS1 o MR309/E-52862). In June 2012, Esteve has moved its Center for Drug Discovery and Preclinical Development to the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) in an attempt to shorten development time and speed up the arrival to market of innovative new drugs. 

 

Eugin grows its business to 14,000 treatments per year Blog Post

Eugin Clinic performed 13,885 assisted reproduction treatments in 2015, which places it as one of the European leaders in the sector. The international centre, which has its basic research laboratory at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), performs 10% of the treatments by means of egg donation from all over Europe and their success rates, which are verified by the prestigious German certification agency, TÜV, confirm that 9 in10 women achieve pregnancy. Intelligent Pharma, specializing in computational chemistry services for the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, recently opened a new office in Munich (Germany). It is the fifth international office that the company has set up in the same number of years. The company also recently received a capital injection of 550,000 euros from the Avanza 2 program from the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, and the Torres Quevedo call from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

Science Week celebrates its 20th edition with more than 350 activities Blog Post

The 20th Edition of Science Week (SC’15) was inaugurated today, 16 November, at the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC). The event, coordinated by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi), will take place from 13 to 22 November and will host more than 300 different multidisplinary science and technology dissemination activities. SC’15 has the support of nearly 100 institutions and agencies of the Catalan system of research and innovation, most notably the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Catalan Institute for Bioengineering (IBEC) that which will be offering a unique scientific workshop at its premises located at Barcelona Science Park (PCB).

 

Mind the byte concludes the biggest round of biotech crowdequity in Spain Blog Post

In just 43 days, bioinformatics company Mind the Byte, which specializes in products and services for computational drug design and is located in the Barcelona Scientific Park (PCB), has concluded an investment round totalling €234,310 through the crowdequity platform (for investment crowdfunding) Crowdcube. This figure represents not only more than double the funding target set by the company (234%), but it is also the largest round of crowdequity achieved in the biotech industry in Spain, with 115 private investors. The average investment amount was €2,037, with a maximum investment of €80,000.
