Núria Montserrat represents the European Research Council at the WEF Summer Davos in China

Núria Montserrat, ICREA professor and principal investigator at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) was among the nine scientists representatives of the European Research Council (ERC) at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC), also known as "Summer Davos". Organised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Chinese city of Dailan from 1 to 3 July, the 2019 edition of this event brought together the brightest minds on the planet to discuss issues related to scientific research, leadership, and innovation. 

 

For the eighth year running, the ERC took part with a delegation, composed of ERC President Prof. Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and nine ERC grantees, all leaders in their respective fields. Montserrat and other distinguished international researchers that receive funding from the ERC participated in press conferences, talks and discussions on a wide array of topics – from tackling cancer; promoting responsible leadership; global waste solutions; and disability inclusion, to science meets business, as well as trust in science.

Núria Montserrat took part in several forums about how to work on more prosperous future and she explained how the research in organ regeneration that she is currently undertaking at IBEC can help in the fight against cancer [video]. According Dr Montserrat: “The cutting-edge science that we are undertaking in Barcelona and all-around Europe, not only contribute to the creation of knowledge, but is also a clear factor of economic, social and cultural growth. However, the ERC funds cannot replace the funds contributed by the member countries.

The World Economic Forum, based in& Geneva (Switzerland) was founded in 1971 as a not-for-profit organization by Klaus M. Schwab. Each year WEF hosts an annual meeting at Davos (Switzerland) to bring together thousands of leaders from business, government, civil society and science to discuss global political, economic, social and environmental challenges.The forum also organizes the Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) in China and several regional meetings that are held throughout the year.
