Laboratorios Ordesa enters the pediatric dermatology market

Laboratorios Ordesa, with a history of over 70 leading child nutrition, has now entered the dermatology market with the marketing of Pediatopic, a new product line for the care of atopic skin in children. Since 2007, Ordesa has had a R&D&I center at  Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB) from where the company actively takes part in clinical trials and national and international research programs to enhance the health and quality of life of individuals, especially during the maternal and child stage of life.

Pediatopic is specifically developed for the care of atopic skin in infants and children. The compound is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skins. This new product range from Ordesa uses the innovative concept of molecular cosmetic supplementation to replicate the biological function of the skin through active compounds and help booster the natural defenses of the epidermis. Its exclusive complex “Dermo Without Complex”, works by reducing inflammation, repairing the natural barrier of the skin and restores its natural balance with adequate hydration.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic recurrent inflammatory disease of the skin. The lack of natural lipids in the skin, responsible for maintaining the skin barrier and defense function of the skin, causes dryness and intense itching that leads to constant scratching, which can cause injury and facilitate the entry of bacteria causing infections or inflammatory processes. Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin disorders in childhood. It is estimated that approximately 20% of school-age children and 3% of adults could suffer from the condition. Although in most cases it usually disappears as the individuals becomes older, 30% of sufferers may continue to have symptoms throughout their adulthood.

“The most important treatment for atopic dermatitis is prevention,” points out Dr. Esther Roé, pediatric dermatologist at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. In fact, several recent studies have shown that “adequate hydration initiated in the first months of life may reduce to 50% the incidence of atopic dermatitis.” Dr. Roé recommends using “hydrating products containing substances that are lacking in atopic skin to restore the natural hydration factor.”

Pediatopic consists of four varieties covering different needs in the care of the atopic skin types and/or extremely dry skins. Dermatological testing has shown a 95% satisfaction with the effectiveness of this product range. As an added feature, it contains no artificial colorants or fragrances and is free of parabens and phenoxyethanol.
