IBEC and IRB Barcelona researchers receive funding from “La Caixa” for biomedical research Blog Post

Researchers from the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Barcelona Institute for Biomedical Research (IRB) -based in the Barcelona Science Park- are part of the winning projects of the third Call for Applications Health Research Projects organized by “La Caixa ” Foundation, which this year allocates 18 million euros to 25 biomedical projects to tackle those diseases with the greatest global impact, such as cardiovascular, neurological, infectious and oncological.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD)- Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) have set up Gate2Brain, a company based on a novel technology to transport drugs into the brain. The biotech, based in the Barcelona Science Park, is the second joint spin-off between IRB Barcelona and the UB to be funded by the Mind the Gap Programme run by the Botín Foundation.

NBD –a spin-off from the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS), the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA)– is located at the Barcelona Science Park and the North Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

 

Núria López-Bigas receives the National ‘Doctores Diz Pintado’ Cancer Research Prize Blog Post

Núria López-Bigas, ICREA researcher at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) in the Barcelona Science Park, has received the IX National ‘Doctores Diz Pintado’ Cancer Research Prize for her career path. The researcher is the first female scientist to be presented with this prize, which is presented every year by the Fundación de Investigación del Cáncer de la Universidad de la Salamancaa (FICUS)-Centro de Investigación del Cáncer (USAL-CSIC)  to promote and acknowledge the contribution of young Spanish researchers to Cancer Research.
