Record-breaking turnout at Bio€quity from the Barcelona Science Park

On 20 and 21 May, Barcelona played host for the first time to Bio€quity Europe, the main investment event focussing on the European biopharmaceutical industry, thanks to an initiative from the Comité Anfitrión Regional (Regional Hosting Committee) comprising Biocat, CataloniaBio & HealthTech, ACCIÓ and Ysios Capital. A dozen companies from the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) were chosen by the organisation as some of the 80 most promising biotechnologies in Europe to present their project to the 550 investors, business developers and experts into biopharmaceutical licensing that attended the event.

Bio€quity Europe is the main meeting point in the sector for investors looking for Life Science companies to invest in and experts in biopharmaceutical licensing who want to assess new business opportunities. In this 2019 edition of the event, the schedule once again included partnering meetings, plenary sessions, round tables and workshops in the Hotel Crowne Plaza, the site of the meeting.

In the specialist presentation entitled “Scaling Up Catalonia”, Jordi Naval, the Managing Director of Biocat, laid out the potential of the Catalonia BioRegion, and several companies from the Barcelona Science Park presented their success stories, including Glycardial Diagnostics and IDP Pharma. Throughout the two days of the event, AELIX Therapeutics, Cebiotex and Senolytic Therapeutics also presented their projects to potential investors.

Bio€quity also hosted the official presentation of Ona Therapeutics, a new spin-off from IRB Barcelona and the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA), which is starting out with €1.5 million from Sabadell Asabys, a joint initiative by Banco Sabadell and Asabys Partners. The company, based in the Barcelona Science Park, focuses its activities on developing a new medicinal product to treat metastatic cancer.

The Bosch i Gimpera Foundation attended the event to present the spin-off portfolio of the Universitat de Barcelona in the Life Sciences sector. Other PCB businesses, such as Aromics, AVX Pharma, Bionure, Genesis BioMed, Greenaltech, Molomics and ProteoDesign, also participated in the event.

A record-breaking edition
