Today, the Caixaforum auditorium in Barcelona has hosted the 10th EmprendedorXXI Awards Ceremony, an initiative promoted by “la Caixa”, through Caixa Capital Risc, and co-awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, through Enisa.The biotechnology company, Avizorex Pharma, an ophthalmology biotech company with offices at Barcelona Science Park (PCB), has received the award in the Life Sciences category.

Avizorex Pharma –an ophthalmology biotech company with offices at Barcelona Science Park (PCB)– announces the submission of a Clinical Trial Application (CTA) to the Spanish Competent Authority, requesting clearance to initiate a Phase I/II clinical trial investigating the use of AVX-012 Ophthalmic Solution, a small molecule with a novel mechanism of action to treat patients suffering from mild to moderate Dry Eye Syndrome (DES).

Intelligent Pharma wins the award CaràcterEmpresa to Innovation in Catalonia Blog Post

Intelligent Pharma, a company based at the Barcelona Science Park  (PCB), has won the Premi CaràcterEmpresa award in the category of Innovation among 14 companies from around Catalonia and has been selected to take part in the nation-wide final phase, that will take place this coming June. The CaràcterEmpresa awards are promoted by CaixaBank and by the Spanish Confederatiion of Business Organizations (CEOE) in the Catalan edition, also promoted by Foment del Treball, the institution representing the interests of Catalan industry and business.

The fair “Live Research” takes off at CosmoCaixa Blog Post

Bringing science to society, fostering communication between the public and researchers and promote scientific vocation among the young are the aims of the Live Research fair, that started yesterday at CosmoCaixa Barcelona until Saturday 9th April. The exhibit has been organized by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and Obra Social ”la Caixa” with the support of the Barcelona City Council and the collaboration of the University of Barcelona (UB).

 

Aromics and Iproteos present their projects at 16th Healthcare Investment Forum Blog Post

Aromics and Iproteos, based at the Barcelona Science Park, have been selected to present their innovation projects at 16th Healthcare Investment Forum, which took place on 9th March at the meeting room of the Barcelona Medical Association (COMB). The workshop, organised by Biocat, Esade BAN, Barcelona Activa and COMB, aims to create a meeting point for companies in the healthcare sector and investors who might be interested in funding their idea or product. Since 2009, this initiative has helped lunch over 100 companies following a selection process that evaluated about 400 projects.

Less than a month ago Marco Pugliese took over as General Manager of the Spanish node of EIT Health, the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC), an initiative dedicated to healthy living and active aging and one of the KICs promoted by the European Institute of Technology and Innovation (EIT). EIT Health Spain, based at  Barcelona Science Park (PCB), is made up of 17 public and private leasing institutions in their sector. Pugliese reveals what his management priorities are going to be as head of such a large consortium.

 

SOM Biotech and Vall d’Hebron successfully complete a clinical trial in patients with TTR amyloidosis Blog Post

SOM Biotech and the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) have successfully completed a Phase IIa proof-of-concept clinical trial in humans to evaluate the efficacy and safety of an innovative oral therapy for transthyretin amyloidosis (TTA), a rare disease that affects the peripheral nervous system and heart. To carry out this trial, the hospital and the Catalan biotech, with headquarters at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), signed an risk-sharing agreement under (RSA) which they jointly assumed the risks and economic returns of the project.

 

Spain and France join the European Consortium Elixir for managing and analysing biological data Blog Post

At their meeting today in Hinxton (UK), the Board unanimously accepted Spain and France as full members of Elixir, the largest infrastructure of life science data in Europe. The National Bioinformatics Institute (INB), which acts as the Spanish scientific node, will coordinate the Spanish scientific partner institutions. These comprise top-level institutions such as CNAG-CRG and IRB Barcelona, located at PCB. The National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCII) will coordinate the Spanish scientific partner institutions.
