On 16 September, ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation presented the 79 grants for national and international research and innovation projects of excellence. Among the beneficiaries of funding from ”la Caixa” are researchers Eduard Batlle, Raúl Méndez, Meritxell Teixidó and Enrique Marcos, from the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), and José Antonio del Río, Pau Gorostiza and Samuel Sánchez, from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC).

Barcelona Science Park presents the Exporecerca Jove awards Blog Post

From 28 February to 2 March the YoMo Festival in La Farga de l’Hospitalet hosted the 20th Exporecerca Jove, a fair featuring 120 research projects by young people aged 12 to 30. The exhibition is organised every year by the MAGMA association. The idea is to encourage young people to get involved in research, promote sharing experiences and drive participation at this and other fairs and congresses in Spain and abroad. The Barcelona Science Park (Parc Científic de Barcelona, PCB) handed out three awards and a runner-up prize consisting of a day in a laboratory at its facilities along with the chance to attend a workshop in its Research in Society programme.

 

Biocat Report shows growth in international investment in BioRegion of Catalonia Blog Post

More than 300 professionals from the sector attended the event to present a new edition of the Biocat Report, the benchmark study on the healthcare and life sciences sector in Catalonia. Under de title “Escaling-up the BioRegion of Catalonia”, the Biocat Report highlights the growing attractiveness of the life sciences and health sector for international investment –linked to the positioning of the BioRegion as a European hub in health research–, the increase in the number of companies and the occupation of sector, as well as the advance of innovation in health towards social impact. Biocat, the organization that coordinates and promotes the life sciences sector in Catalonia, has its headquarters in the Barcelona Science Park.

 

ICCUB becomes a Scientifica International technological partner Blog Post

The Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) of the University of Barcelona has signed an agreement with the company Scientifica International to work together in the fields of nuclear and particle physics, space sciences and industry. One of the first licensed products for its trade is the Multi-purpose Integrated Circuit (eMUSIC), carried out at the ICCUB technology Unit (ICCUB-TECH), based in the Barcelona Science Park.

The research group of ICREA professor Xavier Trepat at IBEC in PCB revelals that cell division in epithelial tissues is regulated by mechanical forces Thie study, published in Nature Cell Biology, could potentially opening avenues to a greater understanding of the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells in tumors, and their possible regulation by means of physical forces.

 

Scientific and Technological Centers UB: 30 years of technology serving research and innovation Blog Post

The Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB) reached their first thirty years of activity over which they have become widely known in both the national and international fields of research, innovation, and transfer. At the moment, the team in CCiTUB is formed by a hundred and sixty experts and administration staff, and eighty of tem are doctors, distributed in thirty-eight units, six of which are located in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), among which there is the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (LRB), listed in the Map of Unique Scientific and Technical Infraestructures (ICTS).
