Spark, a new public-private project created to develop a drug to fight the cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia Blog Post

A public-private consortium led by the biotech Iproteos –based at the Barcelona Science Park–, and comprised by the biopharmaceutical company Ascil Biopharm, the Institute for Biomedical Research (IRB Barcelona), the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has launched a project to advance the development of a new neuroprotective drug for the treatment of the cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia and other mental disorders. The project, called “Spark”, has just received a 500,000 euro grant from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the 2014 “Retos-Colaboración” subprogram call as part of the National Programme for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society’ (File. RTC-2014-1645-1).

 

The ‘Networking & Innovation Day’ has consolidated itself as the reference benchmark to promote open innovation of the UB group Blog Post

Nearly 200 participants from 100 public and private entities gathered at the Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB) as part of the 2nd edition of the ‘Networking & Innovation Day‘. The seminar was organized by the University of Barcelona (UB), the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG), the Science and Technology Centers of the UB (CCTiUB) and the PCB with the aim to create a reference benchmark in the transfer of knowledge and technology that promotes public-private partnership, partnership agreements and open innovation among actors in the research and innovation system of UB Group and the business world, in general.

One hundred twenty-five secondary teachers from across Europe participate in the 2nd course Xplore Health Blog Post

The 2nd course of Xplore Health entitled “Bringing biotechnology revolution into the classroom’, was held at the Open Lab at the Barcelona Science Park on 7, 14 and 21 November. The course was aimed secondary school teachers in Catalonia and was organized by the Public Engagement Unit of the PCB with the support of the and the collaboration of the , the of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the European School Net (EUN). On this occasion, the program was offered in parallel at the Museum of La Coruña, and through the virtual community –coordinated by the EUN– which brings together 175,000 teachers and 95,000 European schools.

“Privacy and Confidentiality: the protection of health-related data”, theme of the IV Seminar of the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics at the UB Blog Post

On the 21st of January, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) will host at the Antoni Caparros Conference Hall the IV International Seminar of the (UB) under the title “Privacy and Confidentiality: the protection of health-related data”. This year, the forum –which is held annually with the aim of promoting the ““of the UNESCO–will focus on fostering a culture sensitive to the protection of the confidentiality of computerized medical records as well as the necessary confidentiality of the doctor-patient relationship.

The Generalitat and the State sign an agreement to invest 13 million Euros at PCB Blog Post

The University of Barcelona will be receiving an additional 13.090 million Euros allocated to the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB), as a result of a mutual agreement reached between the government of the Generalitat and the government of Spain. Specifically, the Bilateral Commission formed by Generalitat-State, chaired by the Councillor of Home Affairs, Institutional Relations and Participation, Joan Saura, and the Minister of Public Administration, Elena Salgado, has approved a number of projects to be carried out in Catalonia throughout 2009 and which will be publically funded by the State for a total of 800.13 million Euros, an additional budget item that has been added to the original amount forecasted in the General State Budgets for the current year.
