Judit Cubedo, CEO of GlyCardial, finalist for the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2020 Blog Post

Judit Cubedo, co-founder and CEO of GlyCardial Diagnostics, is one of the twenty-one women selected as finalists for the EU Prize for Women Innovators 2020, an award given annually to the most talented and inspiring entrepreneurs in Europe. The company led by Judit, which is based in the Barcelona Science Park, is conducting a clinical trial to validate the performance of Apo J-Glyc as a novel biomarker for the early detection of Myocardial Ischaemia. The award winners will be announced at the European Research and Innovation Days taking place on 22-24 September 2020.

 

A global team involving ICUB-Tech researchers detects a type of unidentified astronomical object Blog Post

Researchers from the international collaborations LIGO and Virgo, in which the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB (ICCUB) takes part under the coordination of Jordi Portell –co-director of the ICCUB Technology Unit, based in the Barcelona Science Park– have announced the discovery of an object of 2.6 solar masses, placing it firmly into so-called mass gap. That is an interval between the mass of the heaviest neutron star and the lightest blackhole, from which there were no observations yet.

 

DTI Foundation creates the IDOTCOVID international open access database Blog Post

Thanks to its global network of collaborators, the DTI Foundation –based in the Barcelona Science Park– has created the International Database on Organ Donation and Transplantation COVID-19 (IDOTCOVID) with the collaboration of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) –Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and with the endorsement of the IRODaT registry and the LIDOBS observatory. The objective of this initiative is to provide clinical evidence in the scientific community towards the establishment of treatment and management protocols for patients infected with SARS-CoV2.

The Catalan company Meteosim, based at the Barcelona Science Park, has signed an alliance with the German multinationa Olfasense to provide a comprehensive solution in the smart management of bad odours and resulting conflicts. Through this alliance, the two companies integrate their leading technology in the Ortelium platform, which enables the analysis of the environmental impact of past, current and future episodes, and includes advanced complaint management tools, facilitating smart decision-making in real time.

 

Salvador Aznar Benitah receives the “Premio Fundación Carmen y Severo Ochoa 2019” Blog Post

Spanish science and technology parks met in Las Palmas Blog Post

Representatives of 64 Spanish science and technology parks met on 24 and 25 October in Gran Canaria as part of the second annual assembly of the Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE). One of the most significant agreements adopted at this meeting, which was attended by Maria Terrades, CEO of the Barcelona Science Park, was the creation of a working group to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at all member parks.

 

DD BioLab strengthens its leadership in the Spanish biotechnology sector Blog Post

The acquisition of Cultek and Teknovas by the Dutscher Group, the leading independent distributor of laboratory supplies in Europe, its Spanish subsidiary, DD BioLab, as the leading supplier in Spain of scientific instruments, consumables and laboratory equipment for research in biotechnology and health. Since it was established in Barcelona Science Park in 2014, DD BioLab has registered sustained 39% annual growth. In 2018, its turnover was around €5M and it expects to exceed €10M in 2022.
