Ernest Giralt Lledó is retiring after 15 years at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), where he has played a key institutional and scientific role. Dr Giralt, today an international reference for science of excellence, will continue to be linked to Institute as an Emeritus Professor. This appointment will allow him to share his guidance and expertise with the current community of scientists.

 

The Barcelona City Council awards Ernest Giralt with the “Ciutat de Barcelona” award Blog Post

Ernest Giralt, group leader of the Design, synthesis and structure of peptides and proteins Laboratory at IRB Barcelona –located at the PCB– and  professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Barcelona has received  the ‘Ciutat de Barcelona’ Award in the category of Experimental Sciences and Technology. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 10 in the City Council, and will be chaired by Mayor Xavier Trias.

Ernest Giralt named Max Bergmann Medalist Blog Post

Ernest Giralt, coordinator of the Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at IRB Barcelona –based in the PCB– and principal investigator of the Peptides and Proteins lab, has been awarded the Bergmann Medal. The society honors Prof. Giralt for his “scientific achievements in peptide chemistry”. The award is presented annually by the Max-Bergmann-Society, a European-based organization of German, Swiss, and Austrian chemists, which seeks to promote peptide research with a special emphasis on chemical methodologies. Giralt will be presented with the medal in a lecture at the Max-Bergmann-Society’s annual meeting, which will be held today 30 September in Pfofeld‐Langlau, Germany. Prof. Giralt’s extensive career has been devoted to the development of peptide synthesis methodologies, peptide structure studies and the use of peptides as shuttles, in addition to addressing many other scientific challenges.

The chemist Ernest Giralt receives the main award of the European Peptide Society Blog Post

This Sunday, the European Peptide Society (EPS) is to distinguish the IRB Barcelona chemist Ernest Giralt through the presentation of the Josef Rudinger Memorial Lecture Award, the main prize given by this organisation to specialists in field of peptide chemistry. Prof. Giralt is acknowledged for “his important contributions” to the development of methodologies for peptide (small proteins) synthesis, structural studies, and molecular recognition, and to the use of peptides as drug delivery agents. The Rudinger Memorial Award will be presented at the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd European Peptide Symposium, Sofia, Bulgaria.

Researcher Ernest Giralt, Coordinator of the Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology Programme of the Insitute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona)–based at the Barcelona Scientific Park– and Professor at the University of Barcelona, has been awarded the National Research Award 2011 by the Spanish Ministry of Science, worth 100,000 euros.

Scientist Ernest Giralt awarded by the European Peptide Society Blog Post

Members of the European Peptide Society Council have named Professor Ernest Giralt as winner of the 2nd Dimitrios Theodoropoulos Memorial Lecture Award for his significant contributions to peptide chemistry in the last five years. Giralt, coordinator of the Chemistry and Pharmacology Porgramme at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and senior professor at the University of Barcelona, will receive the award during the 7th Hellenic Forum of Bioactive Peptides, which will be held in Greece on 16 and 17 May.

Launch of the company Gate2Brain, based on novel technology developed at IRB Barcelona to transport drugs into the brain Blog Post

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD)- Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) have set up Gate2Brain, a company based on a novel technology to transport drugs into the brain. The biotech, based in the Barcelona Science Park, is the second joint spin-off between IRB Barcelona and the UB to be funded by the Mind the Gap Programme run by the Botín Foundation.
