DTI Foundation creates the IDOTCOVID international open access database Blog Post

Thanks to its global network of collaborators, the DTI Foundation –based in the Barcelona Science Park– has created the International Database on Organ Donation and Transplantation COVID-19 (IDOTCOVID) with the collaboration of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) –Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and with the endorsement of the IRODaT registry and the LIDOBS observatory. The objective of this initiative is to provide clinical evidence in the scientific community towards the establishment of treatment and management protocols for patients infected with SARS-CoV2.

 

An increase in low density lipoproteins would favour insulin resistance Blog Post

A study led by the University of Barcelona proved that low-density proteins (VLDL) can worsen insulin resistance, a disease that favours the development of type 2 diabetes. The study, published in the scientific journal Diabetologia , has been carried out by the research group led by Manuel Vázquez Carrera, researcher from the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Chemistry and the Institute of Biomedicine of the UB (IBUB), located at the Barcelona Science Park.

A research project co-chaired by Antonio Zorzano, at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) at PCB, and Marc Claret, at the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute – IDIBAPS, both members of the CIBERDEM network, emphasizes the importance of the neuronal mechanisms in the detection of nutrients and the control of glucose levels. The results published in Cell Metabolism help to understand diabetes in greater detail.

 

The project ¨Training and social awareness for increasing organ donation in the European Union and neighbouring countries¨ (EUDONORGAN) has been launched Blog Post

The main objective of the European project EUDONORGAN, acronym for ‘Training and social awareness for increasing organ donation in the European Union and neighbouring countries’ is to provide training and increase social awareness in the EU and neighbouring countries with the ultimate aim to increase the number of donors. The project  –led by the University of BarcelonaBosch i Gimpera Foundation (UB-FBG) together with the DTI Foundation located at the Barcelona Science Park– is based on two (WPs), Social Awareness and Train the Trainers, the latter coordinated by DTI, which has trained over the last 25 years approximately 13,000 health professionals from more than 100 countries through its International Program TPM.

 

Endor Nanotechnologies develops a treatment against cancer of the pancreas and colon capable of overcoming tumor resistance Blog Post

Endor Nanotechnologies –based at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB)– will start Phase II clinical trials on a new innovative treatment for cancer of the pancreas and colon, capable of preventing the tumor from becoming resistant. This new innovative treatment developped by Endor won the Best Biotechnology Product Award 2016 at the European Biotechnology Congress, organized by the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA) last May in Riga, Latvia Republic.
