The biotechnology company Omnia Molecular, located in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), has announced the end of the first phase of its search for financial backing. The company has attracted 600,000 euros, which will be invested by the venture capital section of the la Caixa financial institution “Caixa Capital Semilla”, and by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) through its Neotec project.
The bioincubator of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) will be one of the finalists representing Spain in the European Enterprise Awards. The awards are given by the European Union in recognition of best practices among those public, regional and local initiatives aimed at promoting the enterprise spirit and economic and business development in the various regions of a country.
Scientists at the Institute of Biomedical Research of the Parc Científic de Barcelona ( IRB-PCB ) have performed a study that indicates that some cancer tumors may originate through defects in stem cell division. The study, directed by Cayetano González, ICREA researcher and head of the Cell Division Group at the IRB-PCB, has focused on the division of the neuroblast, the cell fated to become a neuron, in models of the fly Drosophila . The results from this research have been published in the 4 September online edition of the scientific journal Nature Genetics (doi:10.1038/ng1632).
On 12th September, the CIDEM-PCB Bioincubator of the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park) and the business incubator Quebec Biotechnology Innovation Centre (QBIC), located in the Biotech City of Laval Island (Quebec), signed a collaboration agreement which aims to strengthen new cooperation models that support the creation of new enterprises.
