The Barcelona Science Park launches the 15th edition of BATX2LAB Blog Post

The Barcelona Science Park has just opened the registration for the 15th edition of BATX2LAB, which offers High School students the chance to carry out the practical part of their research project in the PCB laboratories under the tutorship of a scientist. This initiative is part of PCB’s Research in Society programme –a proposal to bring science to citizens and promote research careers in young student– that offers over 100 activities in which around 5,000 people participate every year.

 

Two UB centers create a new platform on neurotoxicology and drug testing based on stem cells Blog Post

The Production and Validation Center for Advanced Therapies (Creatio) and the Research Centre on Toxicology (CERETOX) –through the Unit of Experimental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (UTOX) from the Barcelona Science Park (PCB–, entities of the University of Barcelona with the Tecnio seal, have created the platform Avantdrug. The new platform offers services to companies and research groups to carry out drug neurotoxicity tests and drug screenings in vitro using neurons taken from pluripotent stem cells (HPSC).

 

Bionure reports successful Phase 1 Study for lead candidate BN201 Blog Post

Bionure, a biotech company specialized in neuroprotection based in the Barcelona Science Park, today announces that it has successfully concluded its Phase 1 clinical study with its lead candidate BN201, a first-in-class compound to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The company is now preparing a Series B funding round to finance the Phase 2 clinical program. 

 

The Bosch i Gimpera Foundation participates in five clusters in Catalonia Blog Post

OilFlux opens a R&D&i center at the Barcelona Science Park Blog Post

OilFlux, specialized in the development of technology that increases the efficiency of processes within the crude oil industry, has opened a R&D&i centre at the Barcelona Science Park. The objective of the company –which develops, manufactures and distributes its products to countries across all five continents– is to increase the quality of the ongoing research and development (R&D) of its formulations to resolve the problems associated with the crude oil and natural gas extraction processes and to reduce the environmental impact as well.

 

Characterisation of the structure and function of a member of the L-Amino acid Transporter (LAT) family Blog Post

Scientists at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) in the Barcelona Science Park and the CIBER of Rare Diseases (CIBERER) – in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC) at PCB, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) – have now characterised the structure of a member of the LAT family. Mutations in L-amino acid transporters (LATs) can lead to a wide range of conditions, such as autism, hearing loss and aminoacidurias. The work has been published in the journal Nature Communications.

 

Esteve’s R&D&I has once again received the qualification ”Excellent” in the Profarma program Blog Post

Moldless approach to generate 3D intestinal tissue model using hydrogels Blog Post

The Biomimetic systems for cell engineering group, lead by Elena Martínez at IInstitute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), has developed a new method to generate 3D intestinal tissue using hydrogels. This new in vitro model has been improved by providing cells with a more physiologically realistic environment, including tissue architecture, cell-matrix interactions and chemical signalling while remaining compatible with standard cell characterization techniques.
