Easter cake and solidarity

The mona de Pasqua, or Easter cake, is a living tradition with centuries of history behind it and which has evolved over time. The first monas were ring-shaped cakes decorated with hard-boiled eggs. The use of chocolate for the mona is a modern addition, and we can now find monas in all shapes and sizes made from cacao.

Harnessing the strength of this tradition, the Associació Mestres Solidàries and the Fundació Sant Tomàs de Manlleu have created a giant mona called GLOBIT as part of an action to raise funds to make the paediatric ward of Hospital Sant Pau more welcoming.

To encourage contributions and charity fundraising, the workshop has produced miniature Globits (a combination of globus [balloon] and “rabbit”), which are for sale in the Esclat and Bonpreu supermarkets.

Tradition and solidarity working together to make children’s hospital stays just a bit easier.

Happy Easter!
