What if the hike in fuel prices is a chance to rethink our purchases?

The current geopolitical situation is causing a continued rise in the price of oil and, consequently, its derivatives such as fuels. Private vehicles and freight transport are directly affected by these price increases.

An average of 120 to 140 lorries enter the PCB daily, and that’s without the parcels arriving via courier or the materials being sent to customers.

At the end of the month, we can estimate that around 3,500 vehicles transporting materials have come through our facilities. That’s quite a figure, and, considering that the transport sector is responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions, one that clearly has an impact on PCB air quality.

Crisis situations are good times to rethink established activities and attitudes. Perhaps now, faced with the continued increase in the cost of transport, we can make real efforts to reduce the number of carrier trips, to group supplier and transit deliveries, and to rethink private online purchases.

Those of us at the PCB encourage organisations to take a serious look at their purchases and group orders together, especially from recurring suppliers, to cut down on travel. Carriers will benefit, and so will our air quality.
