CataloniaBioHT participates in the Annual Advisory Committee of the Catalonia’s Cluster Programme Blog Post

Last Thursday, the president of CataloniaBio & HealthTech (CataloniaBioHT), Jaume Amat, participated in the Annual Advisory Committee of the Catalonia’s Cluster Programme, promoted by ACCIÓ, alongside the other presidents of the 30 accredited clusters. The association, founded in 2017 as a result of the merger of CataloniaBio and HeathTech Cluster and headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park, has over 160 companies and agents in the field of biomedicine and health. 

 

CataloniaBio & HealthTech and Boston MassMEDIC join forces Blog Post

CataloniaBio & HealthTech –the association of companies in the biomedicine and health arena in Catalonia, based in the Barcelona Science Park– and the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC), the largest association of medical technology companies in the United States, have signed an agreement to foster innovation and collaborations in business and research among their members. 

 

GlyCardial Diagnostics wins the EmprendedorXXI 2019 Award in the ‘Health Tech’ category Blog Post

GlyCardial Diagnostics has won the  the EmprendedorXXI Award in the ‘Health Tech’ category, one of the six awards granted in its twelfth year to recognize those companies in Spain and Portugal with greatest growth potential in several sectors linked to the new innovation trends. The winners have been selected from 961 companies in Spain and Portugal. The biotechnology company, headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park, adds this award to the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which it received on 9 May.

 

GlyCardial Diagnostics receives the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia Blog Post

The companies GlyCardial Diagnostics, based in the Barcelona Science Park, and Mitiga Solutions, have been honoured with the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which is promoted by CaixaBank –through DayOne, its specialized division that provides banking services for technology and innovation companies and its investors- and awarded jointly by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through Empresa Nacional de Innovación, S.A. (ENISA). The award ceremony was held yesterday in the Recinte Modernista of the Hospital de Sant Pau as part of the ‘DayOne Innovation Summit’ event. Outside of the regional prize, next May 14th the sectorial EntrepreneurXXI Awards will be awarded to 6 nationwide companies with the highest growth potential in their sector.

The life sciences and healthcare sector of Catalonia gathers 734 companies with a turnover of 14.360 million euros, 7% of Catalonia’s GDP and employs 42,133 workers. These are some of the data yielded by the 2015 Biocat Report, presented last Thursday at the Palau de la Generalitat, which brought more than 200 politicians, business people and figures from academia and science. The event was presided over by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, with the participation of Albert Barberà, CEO at Biocat, the organization that coordinates and promotes the health and life sciences sector in Catalonia, and Ella Korets-Smith, executive director of TO Health!, the Toronto´s life science cluster. 

 

Researchers froms IBEC and UB have collaborated in the definition of a new kind of indicators for bacterial virulence Blog Post

Researchers and the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the University of Barcelona (UB) together with their collaborators from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene (University of Lübeck) and German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) have determined a new kind of indicators for bacterial virulence which can help detect and preventing infection outbreaks caused by Escherichia coli.

 

Catalan biotech sector to meet in Stockholm Blog Post

The sixteenth edition of the BIO-Europe Spring (BES), the main springtime partnering conference of the sector, takes place this year in Stockholm from 4th to 6th April. The Catalan delegation, coordinated by Biocat once again, will be formed by 24 companies and entities –among which are the companies BioingeniumEsteveIntelligent Pharma and Iproteos, based at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB)–, representing more than a half of the Spanish participation at the event.
