Secure passwords: a basic key to cybersecurity

Passwords continue to be the first line of defence in protecting our personal and professional data. In observance of World Password Day, RTVE warned that many cybercrimes originate from weak, reused or easily deducible passwords.

Along these same lines, INCIBE spoke of how poor management of credentials can facilitate fraud, identity theft and unauthorised access to sensitive information.

To reduce these risks, experts recommend:

  • Use long and strong passwords.
  • Avoid personal data or easily deducible information.
  • Use a different password for each service.
  • Use password managers.
  • Activate two-factor authentication whenever possible.

Adopting good habits in the use of passwords is a simple but essential step in protecting ourselves and contributing to everyone’s digital security.
