Yesterday, Barcelona Science Park (Parc Científic de Barcelona, PCB) held the first of a number of events scheduled to commemorate its 20 years as a meeting place for universities, companies and society. Established by the University of Barcelona (UB) in 1997 with the mission of promoting formulas to enhance research excellence, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship, it was the first science park in Spain. Twenty years after the first brick was laid, the Barcelona Science Park is now one of Europe’s leading science, technology and business innovation parks for life sciences. Covering an area of over 100,000 m2, it boasts a wide range of scientific and technological infrastructures and an innovative community made up of more than 100 public and private entities and 2,700 professionals

 

Genesis Ventures selects the NeuroHeal project by the UAB’s Neurosciences Institute for its first investment Blog Post

The Genesis Ventures fund—managed by the consultancy firm Genesis Biomed headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park—has secured its first deal with its investment of €75,000 in the NeuroHeal project, a new pharmacological combination that accelerates nerve regeneration, developed at the Neurosciences Institute (INc) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). 

 

Scientific and Technological Centers UB: 30 years of technology serving research and innovation Blog Post

The Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB) reached their first thirty years of activity over which they have become widely known in both the national and international fields of research, innovation, and transfer. At the moment, the team in CCiTUB is formed by a hundred and sixty experts and administration staff, and eighty of tem are doctors, distributed in thirty-eight units, six of which are located in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), among which there is the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (LRB), listed in the Map of Unique Scientific and Technical Infraestructures (ICTS). 

 

GalChimia opens an R&D centre in the Barcelona Science Park Blog Post

Galician company GalChimia –a specialist in organic chemistry products and services for the pharmaceutical industry– has today opened its R&D centre in the Barcelona Science Park to step up its growth and internationalisation strategy. With this first subsidiary the Galicia-based company expects to increase its turnover by 25% over the next two years and step up its growth and internationalisation plan.

 

The Fem Talent 2018 Awards recognize Judit Anido and ProteoDesign Blog Post

Two companies based in the Barcelona Science Park have been recognized in this year’s edition of the Fem Talent awards. Dr Judit Anido, co-founder and CEO of Mosaic Biomedicals, has received the “Emerging Talent” award, and the company ProteoDesign –created by Silvia Frutos, Miquel Vila-Perelló, Silvia Frutos, Marc Montserrat and Tom W. Muir– has been a finalist in the ‘Organisation with Fem Talent Values’ category.

 

An increase in low density lipoproteins would favour insulin resistance Blog Post

A study led by the University of Barcelona proved that low-density proteins (VLDL) can worsen insulin resistance, a disease that favours the development of type 2 diabetes. The study, published in the scientific journal Diabetologia , has been carried out by the research group led by Manuel Vázquez Carrera, researcher from the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Chemistry and the Institute of Biomedicine of the UB (IBUB), located at the Barcelona Science Park.

 

Seminar on CDTI Instruments to fund R&D&i projects and startups Blog Post

On July 25 the Barcelona Science Park – in collaboration with the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), Biocat and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG)- organizes a seminar to introduce the different instruments that the CDTI has to fund R&D&i projects and to present the initiatives of its programs for this 2017 in the healthcare sector.
