Architecture for a planet in transition

The 2026 UIA World Congress of Architects is currently being held in Barcelona. The event brings together more than 10,000 participants and intends to be a space for debate and exchange of knowledge and experiences to address the current global problems surrounding housing and decent living conditions.

Reducing the environmental impact of construction activities and offering construction and urban planning solutions that meet the needs of our societies are the congress’s two main focal points. Architecture has a defining role in improving living conditions in urban environments and contributing to territorial rebalancing, now from an environmental perspective. As stated by the congress organisers, architecture must actively respond to global challenges such as climate change, social inequality and conflicts.

Our hope is that this meeting in Barcelona will truly be a laboratory of ideas that generate joint responses and guidelines to face the challenges posed by the climate and social crises in which we find ourselves immersed.
