IBEC presents its capabilities in 3D bioprinting at the 4th edition of INDUSTRY Blog Post

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), based in the Barcelona Science Park, participated in the fourth edition of INDUSTRY From Needs to Solutions, which took place from 29th to 31st October at Fira Barcelona´s Gran Via venue. The event brought together more than 150 companies in its exhibition area and 150 speakers within the framework of Barcelona Industry Week, that brought together seven major events related to digital transformation at Fira Barcelona. IoT Solutions World Congress, Blockchain Solutions World and AI & Cognitive Systems Forum were other events that added to this great summit where the achievements and innovations of disruptive technologies in the field of health became evident.

 

Meteosim implements the world’s first comprehensive air quality management system in Riyadh Blog Post

Meteosim, headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), has implemented a first-of-its-kind system in Riyadh to integrate, in a single platform, the city’s air quality forecast, atmospheric chemical emergency management and any related decision making. This is the world’s most ambitious project in this field allowing to predict the air quality in any given street in the capital city of Saudi Arabia, which has over 8 million inhabitants.

 

Social awareness event for Eudonorgan project at the European Parliament Blog Post

More than 120 professionals from the field of health and other experts from thirty-three countries worldwide have taken part in the social awareness event of the EUDONORGAN project, an initiative directly launched by the European Parliament and led by the University of Barcelona, together with the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation and the DTI Foundation – Donation & Transplantation Institute, both entities located at the Barcelona Science Park. Under the motto “Why organ donation matters to us all?”, on February 18 this forum gathered in the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium) a wide representation of experts of the field of health, patients, NGOs, support groups and other collectives. 

 

Eit Health Trilateral Meeting at the Barcelona Science Park Blog Post

Innovators, entrepreneurs and investors shared ideas and discussed partnerships at the first trilateral meeting between EIT Health’s German, Spanish and InnoStars Co-Location Centres on 25-26 April at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). Around 60 participants representing more than 40 organizations invited by EIT Health in Germany, Spain and InnoStars countries, brought their knowledge and need for partners to a series of matchmaking sessions that allowed participants to engage in more than 100 face-to-face meetings. 

 

IRB Barcelona opens brand new laboratory for analysis of genomic ‘big data’ Blog Post

Researcher in the field of bioinformatics and genomics Fran Supek is starting his Genome Data Science (aGENDAS) laboratory at the  Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), within the Structural and Computational Biology Research Programme. The recruitment of Supek is a clear demonstration of IRB Barcelona’s commitment to offering leadership opportunities to young investigators and to recruiting highly promising scientific talent at its headquarters at the Barcelona Science Park.

Scientists from the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG), based in Barcelona Science Park and integrated to the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) unites with hundreds of innovators, research pioneers, clinicians, industry leaders and policy makers from all around Europe are united to revolutionize healthcare on the frame of LifeTime initiative. They are participating in two publications: a perspective article in the journal Nature and the LifeTime Strategic Research Agenda. They are now presenting how to improve leverage the latest scientific breakthroughs and technologies over the next decade, to track, understand and treat human cells throughout an individual’s lifetime.

 

The FBG awards €100,000 to four UB projects for the valorisation of research Blog Post

On 18 January, the FBG, located at PCB, presented the grants of the Valorisation Fund (FVal) of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation (F2i). Within this funding programme, € 25,000 were awarded to each selected project, which will be used to valorize projects of the University of Barcelona with a high potential for transfer and impact on our society. 

 

IBEC researcher Samuel Sanchez at the ‘Innovators Under 35 Europe’ summit Blog Post

Samuel Sánchez, researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) at PCB, was among the experts invited to participate at the European summit of the winners of the MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35 Europe award, which was held last week in Brussels. The research conducted by Samuel Sánchez is pioneer in the field of micro- and nanomotors, small machines such as bacteria that can target specific body cells for applications such as localized drug delivery.
