European Mobility Week: rethinking how we get around amidst the climate crisis

European Mobility Week will take place from 10 to 27 September, encouraging people to adopt sustainable, safe and healthy ways of getting around, such as walking, cycling, using public transport or travelling by electric vehicle.

The theme for 2026 is “Mobility for Everyone”, with a focus on intergenerational fairness and transport systems that are accessible and inclusive for people of all ages, regardless of income, where they live or their individual abilities.

Barcelona, like many other towns and cities, has organised a range of activities for adults and families, including bicycle repair workshops, customising vehicles with reflective stickers, and games and books exploring mobility and how we share our city.

The climate emergency is a reality. Without a collective shift in our habits, CO₂ levels in the atmosphere will continue to rise, and the greenhouse effect will intensify.

The transport of goods and people generates almost 40% of global emissions. As individuals, we can help reduce these emissions by choosing more sustainable ways to travel.
