Unveiling Transcriptional Memory in Ageing: FOXOs and Longevity in Drosophila

Speaker: Dr. Guillermo Martínez Corrales

Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC), Department of Cells and Tissues, Barcelona, Spain.

Abstract

Transcriptional memory, the enduring impact of transient transcriptional activity, poses intriguing questions in understanding developmental processes and responses to environmental stimuli. I use the fly to explore the effects of transcription factors in establishing transcriptional memory. I will focus my talk on the Forkhead Box O (FOXO) transcription factors, known regulators of metabolic homeostasis and longevity, in establishing transcriptional memory. In particular, the tissue-specific activation of Drosophila FOXO allows for controlled exploration of transcriptional memory in the context of ageing. The unique characteristics of this fly modelmakes it ideal to explore longevity determination in vivo in a relatively short time. By shedding light on the lasting impact of transient transcriptional events, we contribute to a deeper understanding of aging processes, offering potential avenues for therapeutic interventions to enhance healthspan and mitigate age-related diseases.
