Dr. Alejo Rodríguez-Fraticelli named new EMBO Young Investigator

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) has selected 28 new researchers for the EMBO Young Investigator programme, an initiative that supports group leaders in their first years of scientific independence and promotes international collaboration and research excellence. Among those selected is Dr. Alejo Rodríguez-Fraticelli, head of the Quantitative Stem Cell Dynamics laboratory at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), located in the Barcelona Science Park.

This distinction is a recognition of the outstanding scientific career and the potential of the research on the individual variability of stem cells and its impact on tissue development and disease led by Dr. Alejo Rodríguez-Fraticelli, ICREA research professor. The researcher joins a leading network that brings together more than 800 scientists in cutting-edge areas of biomedicine.

“Being part of this programme is an extraordinary opportunity. It broadens our scientific network and provides us with new resources to accelerate our research. For me and my team, this is a significant recognition of our hard work and provides great motivation to keep pushing the limits of what we know,” says Rodríguez-Fraticelli.

“EMBO is delighted to welcome the new Young Investigators. Their outstanding achievements demonstrate the excellence and ambition that will drive the progress of the life sciences. We are pleased to support these young group leaders in the next steps of their careers, and we eagerly look forward to their discoveries and their contributions to our community,” states Dr. Fiona Watt, director of EMBO.

The researchers selected for the EMBO Young Investigator Programme enjoy advanced training and mentoring, as well access to the facilities of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg. The programme includes initial economic support of 15,000 euros, with the possibility of requesting up to 10,000 euros additional euros each year, and offers multiple opportunities for networking, scientific meetings, and active participation in a highly dynamic international community. It seeks to boost emerging scientific careers, promote international collaboration and foster environments of research excellence.
