Coffee capsules, an environmental headache

Regrettably, the PCB does not have bins for coffee capsules because there are no providers on the market willing to take on their subsequent management. The collection points located at the municipal Punt Verd recycling points are aimed solely at citizens; companies cannot use them.

Recycling coffee capsules means individually separating the capsule components, whether aluminium or plastic, from the coffee. The carcasses go in the yellow container and the coffee grounds are used for composting. It is abundantly clear that the entire operation is highly inefficient; the process consumes a lot of energy and resources and business operators do not want to take this on.

In a consumerist society where waste production is far from decreasing, we must avoid non-essential activities that produce waste. We at the PCB encourage you to consume your coffee using classic coffee machines that do not require single-dose capsules. Waste reduction is the first step towards a cleaner, healthier planet.
