The 2024 report of the Barcelona Science Park pays tribute to the people who make it work every day

The Barcelona Science Park (PCB) presents its 2024 Annual Report, a document that highlights the main indicators and milestones achieved by the Park’s ecosystem over the past year: more than 3,440 professionals working across 116 organizations, in a context of full occupancy.

The people who drive the Park

Each year, the report is structured around a different central theme. This year, the focus is on people — both the internal team and the PCB community — whose work and commitment drive the Park’s operations and progress. The document includes 14 interviews — 7 with PCB staff members and 7 with professionals from ecosystem organizations — offering a closer look at their experience, dedication, and talent. As Director Maria Terrades states, “Beyond the numbers, behind every institution, every project, every company, every scientific breakthrough, and every service provided, there are people”.

This collection of testimonies serves as a collective tribute to all the individuals who, with dedication and passion, help make the Barcelona Science Park a vibrant, dynamic, and constantly evolving space, where science, knowledge, and innovation move forward day by day.

The report also highlights the progress made by public research centres and companies located in the Park during the previous year (2023), showcasing the high level of excellence of the organizations that are part of it. It also presents the main future outlooks, among which the following stand out the construction of a new 10,000 m² laboratory building, as part of the MIES project (Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, and Health), promoted by the University of Barcelona, the renovation of the Cub building and the development of the new Diagonal Health Axis, which will culminate with the future relocation of the Hospital Clínic to Avinguda Diagonal.

In this context, the report also highlights the incorporation, last July, of the two major research centres linked to Hospital Clínic de Barcelona: the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal).

Finally, the culmination of the BCN Health Booster program is presented, jointly promoted with the Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Activa, and Biocat, to support the growth of eleven entities in the health sector. The program concludes with excellent indicators: most of the entities remain in the Park and have experienced growth both in personnel and investment.
