Living with the new climate reality

Extreme climate phenomena that seemed exceptional a few years ago are now part of our daily lives. Concepts such as sixth-generation fires, flammagenitus clouds, tropical, torrid or scorching nights, the heat island effect, heatwaves or heatstroke have quickly entered our vocabulary, because they describe situations that we experience with increasing frequency.

The Mediterranean region is considered one of the main critical points (hotspots) of climate change, with warming progressing 20% faster than the global average. The consequences are already evident: record-high sea temperatures, prolonged droughts, episodes of intense wind and increasingly frequent and severe heatwaves.

It’s time for the summer holidays, as well as a change in habits. When planning our breaks, we must include new aspects such as flexibility, prevention and capacity for change to deal with possible unforeseen climatic situations.

Being prepared, staying informed and taking precautions is the best way to live with this new reality bearing down on us.
