TMB Foundation colaborates with Aromics to combat the effects of health arising from asbestos

TMB Foundation developed over the coming weeks various activities to raise awareness of the harmful effects of asbestos exposure to human health, in collaboration with the biotech company Aromics Biotech –based in the Barcelona Science Park– and other specialized organizations. This has been the cause of social chosen by company employees, who every year are the protagonists, with their proposals and its vote of solidarity program Choose your cause.

So the first dissemination activity has scheduled the “Working Day on asbestos and its impact on health” as a result of the collaboration between the Foundation TMB and biotechnology firm Aromics. It will take place on Friday, November 15 at 12 pm in the Auditorium Antoni Caparrós at the Barcelona Science Park and will intervene as speakers Dr. Josep Morera, co-director of Respiratory Services at theTeknon Medical Center; Dr. Josep Tarrés, coordinator of the Observatory Medical Team for the Study of Pathologies Related to Asbestos in Vallès Occidental; Dr. Ernest Nadal. Head of Thoracic Tumors Section at the Catalan Institute of Oncology; and Dr. Carmen Plasencia, co-founder and CEO of Aromics.

 

The Bermes project, funded by the EU

The TMB Foundation also collaborates with Aromics in promoting the Bermes Project through a campaign of collective financing for research on the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and in particular to accelerate the development of a drug called NAX035. It is an initiative that has the financial support of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme.

Malignant mesothelioma is a cancer particularly aggressive and difficult to predict at present with few therapeutic options. Its origin is directly related to exposure to asbestos or asbestos. The aim is to complete the stage Aromics regulatory preclinical studies and initiate drug NAX035 with humans. The drug development is a long process and has a high cost. To progress towards these stages in human Aromics requires financial support. This is the sense of collective financing or crowdfunding from donations. The campaign will be articulated through the website of the same Bermes European Project which comprise a section for donations, will begin next December and will run for about four months.

The month of December will continue the activities of the Foundation TMB regarding the health effects caused by asbestos fibers. Thus, on December 10 has scheduled a conference Dr. Jaume Ferrer Joan Sancho, head of Pneumology of the Hospital Vall d’Hebron, entitled pathophysiology of diseases caused by asbestos. The post-employment benefit surveillance program in Catalonia. Will take place at 15 pm in the 11th floor of the general building of the Hospital Vall d’Hebron. Also in December, the Foundation TMB host to the Mercè Sala Metro Diagonal an exhibition on the effects of asbestos on human health.
