Novartis and the Barcelona Science Park launch the program “Reimagine Science”

Novartis, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and Big Van Ciencia announced today the launch of the "Reimagine Science: Clinical Trials, Research and Development of Medicines" program, the main objective of which is to foster scientific curiosity among teachers and young people through of new work methodologies in the educational field.

This academic initiative focuses on the relevance of clinical research for the advancement of medicine. It also aims to promote interest in science among teenagers.

“Reimagine Science: Clinical Trials, Research and Development of Medicines” is a program aimed at students from 1st of ESO to 2nd of Baccalaureate of Catalan institutes. The program starts on September 28 and will end in January 2021 in its first edition. It will be the educational centers themselves that will have the opportunity to enrol their students and teachers in the program through this link.

Novartis, faithful to its commitment to new generations and to a curious and inspiring culture, has developed together with Big Van Ciencia a series of pedagogical materials adapted to the students’ curricula, based on eLearning tools. They are materials that will be offered to teachers to facilitate their students’ approach to the key concepts related to clinical trials and drug development.

The initiative will culminate in the creation of audiovisual materials by the students, where they must explain the contents learned in the project in a creative way.

The program proposes to the participants the use of the theatrical genre of the humorous monologue in order to bring the performing arts closer to the youngest through a format that is close to them and that uses a language that is very attractive to them. When combined with scientific content, the process is fun and pedagogical. In addition to the monologues, songs, animated videos, dramatized sketches or flash-movies will be accepted.

Novartis has made a clear commitment to digital culture, and that is why it will reward the best and most disruptive creations by attending the final Big Van Ciencia show. Javier Malpesa, head of Clinical Research at Novartis affirms: “We are very proud to promote this program, which reaffirms our commitment to the future of research in our country. The company is committed to adding value to society, and we are convinced that with this initiative we will help the educational community and awaken curiosity about research in many young people. The ‘Reimagine Science’ project is fully aligned with our purpose of reimagining medicine, and we are looking forward to seeing the creations the students will get. ”

The Barcelona Science Park will host, whenever the health situation allows it, the Big Van Ciencia scientific monologue show in which a selection of the best videos made by the program participants will be screened. In addition, students will have the opportunity to take a guided tour of the facilities of this leading center in life and health sciences.

According to the director of PCB, Maria Terrades, “one of the objectives of the Science Park within its Recerca en Societat program is to awaken scientific vocations among the youngest. The Parc brings teachers and young people closer to the world of research and Reimagina science poses that challenge and also does it with an entertaining, fun and innovative approach, addressing a current issue such as clinical trials ”.
