DESCRIPTION:En poques setmanes al Pati de l’Hèlix tindrem instal·lada una jardinera dedicada a l’hort. També hem trobat aigua no potable pel reg i d’ús compatible amb la situació de sequera en què ens trobem. Així doncs\, ja podem organitzar els equips i començar a pensar les plantes i les eines que necessitarem. \n  \nPer organitzar els grups de treball i donar les indicacions bàsiques proposem una trobada el 6 de maig. Tothom hi està convidat!

SUMMARY:Unraveling cancer-associated metabolic bottlenecks in vivo
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Johannes Zuber\, PhD.  Senior Group Leader. Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP). Vienna\, Austria. \nJohannes Zuber is a Senior Group Leader at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) at the Vienna BioCenter (VBC) and an Adjunct Professor at the Medical University in Vienna\, Austria. He studied medicine and received a doctorate in molecular cancer research at the Charité Medical School in Berlin\, Germany\, where he also completed four years of clinical training in hematology and oncology. During his postdoctoral research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (New York\, USA) he developed experimentally tractable cancer mouse models and advanced shRNAmir-based screening tools\, which he applied to identify and characterize chromatin-associated dependencies. In his own lab\, Johannes Zuber and his team develop and apply innovative tools for RNAi- and CRISPR-based screening and time-resolved transcriptomics to identify and functionally characterize dependencies and candidate targets in cancer and tumor-associated immune cells. He received several prestigious grants and awards (e.g. ERC-StG 2013\, EMBO-YIP 2014\, German Cancer Prize 2016) and has been elected as an EMBO member in 2022.

A la porta d’una nova revolució tecnològica i científica\, és important adonar-se que la recerca té molt a veure amb nosaltres i amb el nostre futur\, i no és només una activitat limitada als laboratoris. \nMacip és metge\, investigador\, escriptor i divulgador\, actualment director dels Estudis de Ciències de la Salut de la UOC i catedràtic de medicina molecular de la Universitat de Leicester\, així com col·laborador de la Fundació Grífols.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Raquel Oliveira\, PhD – Católica Biomedical Research Centre –   Universidade Católica Portuguesa | Lisboa\nhttps://cbr.fm.ucp.pt/    Lab website: www.chromosomedynamicslab.com. \nMitotic chromatin is largely assumed incompatible with transcription due to changes in the transcription machinery and chromosome architecture. However\, the mechanisms of mitotic transcriptional inactivation and their interplay with chromosome assembly remain largely unknown. Here I will present our recent finding on the dynamics and mechanisms of transcription inactivation during mitosis\, assessed by monitoring ongoing transcription in Drosophila early embryos. I will further discuss how failures to silence chromatin during nuclear division can impair faithful chromosome segregation and organism development.

SUMMARY:The Barcelona Blood-Brain-Barrier (B4) Symposium
DESCRIPTION:To fulfil the promise of applying bioengineering to improve the lives of patients\, we need to adopt a holistic approach encompassing understanding of biological/pathological mechanisms\, development of engineered systems\, and consideration of clinical needs. Hence\, the B4 symposium\, by bringing together experts studying the BBB from a biological\, engineering and medical perspective\, will greatly aid IBEC in its goal of developing bioengineering solutions to deliver therapies against brain disorders. \nBarcelona is home to numerous research groups pushing forward the knowledge frontier of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and its role in brain disorders. To foment interaction across this community\, we are organizing the Barcelona Blood-Brain-Barrier (B4) symposium to bring the BBB-community of Barcelona together to discuss advances in the field. The event will focus on the mechanisms underlying BBB physiology (e.g.\, brain endothelial specialization\, neurovascular coupling\, molecular transport)\, its role in brain disorders (neurodegeneration\, infectious diseases\, cancer)\, and nano/bioengineering strategies to deliver therapies across the BBB. \nThe first edition of this symposium will take place on May 21st-22nd\, 2024. As our inaugural keynote speaker\, we have the honour to welcome Prof. Martin Lauritzen (Copenhagen University). Prof. Lauritzen has been instrumental in our understanding of regulation of cerebral blood-flow by the neurovascular unit\, nanoparticle transport dynamics across the BBB\, and in developing in vivo imaging systems to study the brain vasculature.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Prof. Emmanuel Levy Department of Chemical and Structural Biology – Emmanuel Levy’s Lab – Weizmann Institute of Science\, ISRAEL. \nLife processes involve an intricate choreography between tens of millions of protein building blocks that form the infrastructure of cells. Recent technological advances have revealed the catalogs of proteins present in various cells and organisms. However\, understanding how these proteins assemble and work together is an extraordinarily complex task. I will present recent work from my lab that aims at addressing this challenge using in silico and in vivo approaches.

DESCRIPTION:Servei de Fisioteràpia al Parc…ara també els dimarts! \nDavant la bona resposta i l’increment de demanda dels usuaris i les usuàries del PCB\, a partir del proper mes d’abril el Servei de Fisio s’amplia també als dimarts\,  amb el mateix horari. \nCost de l’activitat: Els imports són de 20€ per una sessió de 30 minuts i 36€ per una sessió de 60 minuts. El PCB cedeix gratuïtament una sala perquè un fisioterapeuta diplomat pugui fer les visites. L’import de l’activitat es íntegrament per al professional. \n  \nCalendari\, horaris de l’activitat i registre aquí.

SUMMARY:El Parc Científic de Barcelona i Funbrain organitzen casals científics per a nens i nenes durant l’estiu 2024
DESCRIPTION:El casal “Explorem la Ciència” s’adreça a nens i nenes de I5 cursat fins a 6è de primària amb la finalitat de despertar l’interès en el món de la ciència. \nDurant aquest casal es resoldrà el misteri de la ciència. Amb un punt de partida immersiu en el que un grup de científics i científiques ha fet un gran descobriment que revolucionarà la ciència. Per protegir aquesta descoberta tan important\, han decidit amagar les dades en una caixa encriptada amb reptes científics complexos. No obstant\, un dels seus experiments els ha esborrat la memòria i s’han oblidat de com obrir la caixa per recuperar el descobriment. \nEl repte del casal serà obrir aquesta caixa encriptada resolent experimentacions i aplicant coneixements tecnològics amb creativitat. Així doncs\, els infants ajudaran a aquest grup de científics i científiques a recuperar la memòria\, endinsant-se en diferents disciplines de la ciència i descobrint els grans coneixements que cada una d’elles amaga. \nDates: Del 15 al 19 de juliol (de 9 a 15 h o de 9 a 16:30 h\, amb possibilitat de servei d’acollida de 8:30 a 9 h i de 16:30 a 17 h).
