El estudio muestra que \u00a0los \u00e1cidos nucleicos de tipo RNA liberados por las mitocondrias de las c\u00e9lulas envejecidas favorecen la inflamaci\u00f3n. El trabajo se publica en la revista Nature Communications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La senescencia es un estado de latencia que alcanzan las c\u00e9lulas da\u00f1adas o envejecidas. Un equipo de investigadores del IRB Barcelona, liderado por el\u00a0<strong>Dr. Manuel Serrano<\/strong>, ha descubierto un proceso clave detr\u00e1s de la inflamaci\u00f3n que provocan estas c\u00e9lulas envejecidas. El estudio revela c\u00f3mo una mol\u00e9cula espec\u00edfica, conocida como ARN mitocondrial de doble cadena, provoca una fuerte respuesta inflamatoria. El ARN mitocondrial est\u00e1 normalmente en el interior de las mitocondrias, pero \u2013 como se muestra en este trabajo \u2013 en c\u00e9lulas envejecidas puede \u201cescapar\u201d de las mitocondrias desencadenando se\u00f1ales de alarma. Este proceso inflamatorio, que se da en c\u00e9lulas envejecidas o senescentes, est\u00e1 vinculado a enfermedades como la fibrosis y trastornos relacionados con la edad.<\/p>\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n muestra que las c\u00e9lulas senescentes acumulan m\u00e1s ARN mitocondrial debido a la disminuci\u00f3n de la enzima encargada de eliminarlo. Adem\u00e1s, los sensores de ARN, que detectan estos fragmentos en la c\u00e9lula, se encuentran aumentados en las c\u00e9lulas envejecidas. Esta acumulaci\u00f3n de ARN mitocondrial y la activaci\u00f3n de los sensores son responsables de gran parte de la inflamaci\u00f3n que producen las c\u00e9lulas senescentes, contribuyendo al envejecimiento inflamatorio o \u00abinflamaging\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores han observado en modelos animales que, al inhibir la producci\u00f3n de estas mol\u00e9culas de ARN, la inflamaci\u00f3n se reduce significativamente, lo que sugiere que el bloqueo de esta v\u00eda podr\u00eda tener aplicaciones terap\u00e9uticas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abEstos resultados revelan una v\u00eda molecular clave detr\u00e1s de la inflamaci\u00f3n que acompa\u00f1a al envejecimiento celular. Ahora sabemos que el ARN mitocondrial no solo es un marcador, sino un factor activo en este proceso. Esta comprensi\u00f3n nos abre la puerta a nuevas estrategias para combatir enfermedades asociadas al envejecimiento y la inflamaci\u00f3n\u00bb, se\u00f1ala el\u00a0<strong>Dr. Manuel Serrano<\/strong>, actualmente investigador en Altos Labs (Cambridge, Reino Unido).<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a la identificaci\u00f3n de estas prote\u00ednas, los investigadores abren nuevas posibilidades para desarrollar terapias que reduzcan la inflamaci\u00f3n asociada a las c\u00e9lulas senescentes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abAhora podemos explorar nuevas formas de tratar enfermedades cr\u00f3nicas asociadas a las c\u00e9lulas senescentes como el envejecimiento, las fibrosis o el c\u00e1ncer,\u00bb coment\u00f3 la\u00a0<strong>Dra.
