En un esfuerzo sin precedentes para abordar una de las principales causas de muerte en ni\u00f1os y adolescentes, Oncodaily<\/a>, un medio internacional especializado en oncolog\u00eda, anuncia su primer oncothon<\/a> mundial. Este telet\u00f3n de 24 horas ser\u00e1 retransmitido globalmente a trav\u00e9s de varias plataformas el 15 de febrero -coincidiendo con el D\u00eda Internacional del C\u00e1ncer Infantil<\/a>– con el objetivo concienciar sobre esta enfermedad y recaudar fondos para iniciar un ensayo cl\u00ednico internacional con Volasertib, uno de los principales f\u00e1rmacos de Oncoheroes Biociences<\/a>. La compa\u00f1\u00eda, asociada al Parque Cient\u00edfico de Barcelona, es la primera biotecnol\u00f3gica del mundo dedicada exclusivamente al desarrollo de nuevas terapias para c\u00e1ncer pedi\u00e1trico.<\/strong><\/p>\n

El c\u00e1ncer infantil contin\u00faa siendo la principal causa de muerte por enfermedad entre ni\u00f1os y adolescentes de 1 a 19 a\u00f1os, con cerca de medio mill\u00f3n de diagn\u00f3sticos en el a\u00f1o en todo el mundo. A pesar de la magnitud de este desaf\u00edo, el desarrollo de nuevos medicamentos para el c\u00e1ncer pedi\u00e1trico ha sido limitado por el peque\u00f1o tama\u00f1o del mercado en comparaci\u00f3n con el c\u00e1ncer en adultos.<\/p>\n

El f\u00e1rmaco\u00a0Volasertib, el candidato principal de\u00a0Oncoheroes, tiene el potencial de combatir cinco tipos de c\u00e1ncer pedi\u00e1tricos diferentes: sarcoma de\u00a0Ewing, neuroblastoma, meduloblastoma, rabdomiosarcoma y glioma difuso de l\u00ednea media (incluido el glioma difuso intr\u00ednseco de tronco).<\/p>\n

El ensayo cl\u00ednico del compuesto evaluar\u00e1 su potencial terap\u00e9utico en combinaci\u00f3n con vinorelbina en unos 100 ni\u00f1os y adolescentes con c\u00e1ncer que han agotado todas las opciones de tratamiento disponibles. Se llevar\u00e1 a cabo en 20 centros de todo el mundo, de Europa, el Reino Unido y Australia. El ensayo est\u00e1 liderado por el Hopp Children\u2019s Cancer Center Heidelberg (KiTZ) en Alemania, y representa la primera evaluaci\u00f3n pedi\u00e1trica integral de Volasertib.<\/p>\n

Durante el oncothon se recaudar\u00e1n fondo a trav\u00e9s del apoyo de la Fundaci\u00f3 Olivares<\/a> y Ally Anderson Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma Research Funds<\/a>, que gestiona Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation. Ambas fundaciones llevan contribuyendo al avance del portafolio de Oncoheroes, incluido Volasertib, desde el inicio de la actividad de la compa\u00f1\u00eda.<\/p>\n
