Maria Macias, investigadora ICREA en el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/es\/empresa\/institut-de-recerca-biomedica-irb-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRB Barcelona<\/a>, con sede en el Parque Cient\u00edfico de Barcelona,\u00a0y la\u00a0Dra. Susan Tzotzos, de la biotech austriaca <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apeptico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apeptico<\/a>, ha desvelado la estructura del solnatide, un p\u00e9ptido sint\u00e9tico que se est\u00e1 probando para el tratamiento del edema pulmonar. En concreto, este proyecto ha permitido detallar el mecanismo de interacci\u00f3n de esta mol\u00e9cula con el canal de sodio ENaC de la c\u00e9lula, responsable de la eliminaci\u00f3n del l\u00edquido pulmonar. El art\u00edculo se publica en la revista Computational and Structural Biotechnology Journal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apeptico, propietaria del solnatide, trabaja con esta mol\u00e9cula desde hace muchos a\u00f1os, estudiando su funci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica. En estos momentos, la mol\u00e9cula est\u00e1 en fase de ensayos cl\u00ednicos para tratar el edema pulmonar de pacientes con S\u00edndrome de distr\u00e9s respiratorio agudo (SDRA), as\u00ed como pacientes de COVID-19 graves, con SDRA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuestro trabajo se ha centrado en describir la estructura del p\u00e9ptido y proponer un mecanismo de acci\u00f3n para abrir la puerta a posibles mejoras en su secuencia, es decir, a peque\u00f1as modificaciones que lo puedan hacer m\u00e1s eficaz\u201d, explica la\u00a0<strong>Dra. En este trabajo, los investigadores han empleado herramientas de predicci\u00f3n de estructura, incluyendo Alphafold, para identificar una regi\u00f3n helicoidal alineada con la membrana celular, por la parte citoplasm\u00e1tica. Esa h\u00e9lice tendr\u00eda una regi\u00f3n con carga positiva y otra con carga negativa.<\/p>\n<p>El\u00a0solnatide, por su parte, tambi\u00e9n ten\u00eda una regi\u00f3n llamada \u201cdipolo\u201d, con una carga negativa y otra positiva.
