La startup \u2013cofundada en 2017 por el emprendedor catal\u00e1n Ricardo Garc\u00eda y el cient\u00edfico italiano Cesare Spadoni, dos padres afectados por el c\u00e1ncer infantil\u2013 tiene la sede en Boston (EE. UU.) y su filial europea est\u00e1 ubicada en el Parque Cient\u00edfico de Barcelona.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Esta alianza establecer\u00e1 un marco de colaboraci\u00f3n que promueva un cambio de paradigma en el tratamiento farmacol\u00f3gico del c\u00e1ncer, mediante la creaci\u00f3n de sinergias entre el <em>know-how<\/em> de Oncoheroes y la tecnolog\u00eda de vanguardia de la plataforma de oncolog\u00eda de precisi\u00f3n Delve, desarrollada por Shepherd.<\/p>\n<p>Delve integra bioinform\u00e1tica, aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico y matem\u00e1ticas, para revelar conocimientos sin precedentes sobre c\u00e1nceres raros, incluido el c\u00e1ncer infantil. La plataforma permite a las empresas ir m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de un enfoque basado en un \u00fanico objetivo para identificar todos los mecanismos de acci\u00f3n principales responsables de la respuesta y la resistencia a los medicamentos dentro del transcriptoma humano.<\/p>\n<p>El primer proyecto de colaboraci\u00f3n entre ambas empresas identificar\u00e1 indicaciones pedi\u00e1tricas y adultas raras adicionales para el activo principal de Oncoheroes: Volasertib.<\/p>\n<p>Volasertib es un inhibidor de la quinasa tipo Polo 1 (PLK1), una enzima que se sabe que participa en la progresi\u00f3n de la enfermedad en varios tipos de c\u00e1ncer. El compuesto ha recibido recientemente la designaci\u00f3n de enfermedad pedi\u00e1trica rara (RPDD) y la designaci\u00f3n de f\u00e1rmaco hu\u00e9rfano (ODD) de la FDA para el tratamiento del rabdomiosarcoma, el sarcoma de tejido blando m\u00e1s com\u00fan en ni\u00f1os y adultos j\u00f3venes, que representa el 3-4% de todos los c\u00e1nceres infantiles.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abEstamos entusiasmados con esta asociaci\u00f3n entre dos compa\u00f1\u00edas impulsadas por una misi\u00f3n decididas a abordar las altas necesidades m\u00e9dicas insatisfechas en el raro espacio de la oncolog\u00eda.
