En concreto, hay un peque\u00f1o grupo de neuronas del hipot\u00e1lamo, llamadas POMC, que detectan e integran se\u00f1ales que informan sobre el estado energ\u00e9tico del organismo y activan las respuestas fisiol\u00f3gicas oportunas. Estas neuronas son sensibles a las fluctuaciones en nutrientes como la glucosa, \u00e1cidos grasos o amino\u00e1cidos.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora, este estudio coliderado por el IRB Barcelona y el IDIBAPS\u00a0\u2013cuyas primera autoras son\u00a0Sara Ram\u00edrez y Alicia G. G\u00f3mez-Valad\u00e9s, del IDIBAPS \u2013 revela la conexi\u00f3n entre las neuronas POMC del hipot\u00e1lamo y la liberaci\u00f3n de insulina por parte del p\u00e1ncreas y describe nuevos mecanismos moleculares implicados en esta conexi\u00f3n.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Para descubrir si defectos en la din\u00e1mica mitocondrial de este peque\u00f1o n\u00facleo de neuronas pod\u00edan causar alteraciones del metabolismo, los investigadores eliminaron una prote\u00edna de din\u00e1mica mitocondrial, la mitofusina 1, de las neuronas POMC de ratones.<\/p>\n<p>En primer lugar, los cient\u00edficos observan que estos ratones tienen alterada la detecci\u00f3n de los niveles de glucosa y la adaptaci\u00f3n entre el estado de ayunas y despu\u00e9s de ser alimentados. Y en segundo lugar, ven que estos defectos conducen a perturbaciones en el metabolismo de la glucosa que vienen causadas por una menor secreci\u00f3n de insulina.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abFue sorprendente descubrir que estas neuronas no s\u00f3lo est\u00e1n implicadas en el control de la ingesta, que ya se sab\u00eda, sino que tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1n implicadas en el control de la cantidad de insulina que segregan las c\u00e9lulas beta del p\u00e1ncreas\u00bb, explica\u00a0Zorzano\u00a0jefe del\u00a0Laboratorio Enfermedades Metab\u00f3licas Complejos y Mitocondrias\u00a0del IRB Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos observan por primera vez que esta comunicaci\u00f3n entre hipot\u00e1lamo y p\u00e1ncreas depende de la actividad de la prote\u00edna mitofusina 1 y empiezan a entender algunos detalles moleculares de esta conexi\u00f3n. Describen que las alteraciones se deben a un aumento desproporcionado, aunque transitorio, de la producci\u00f3n de especies radicales de ox\u00edgeno (ROS) en el hipot\u00e1lamo.
