Las modificaciones epigen\u00e9ticas integran la informaci\u00f3n ambiental y gen\u00e9tica para dar un cierto fenotipo (el conjunto de caracter\u00edsticas que muestra finalmente un individuo) y son capaces de transmitirse de generaci\u00f3n en generaci\u00f3n, haciendo posible que caracteres adquiridos por la influencia del ambiente sean heredables y pasen a la descendencia.<\/p>\n<p>La modificaci\u00f3n epigen\u00e9tica m\u00e1s estudiada es la metilaci\u00f3n del ADN en las regiones promotoras (aquellas que regulan la expresi\u00f3n de genes), que est\u00e1 asociada al silenciamiento de la informaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica. Sin embargo, esta norma de \u2018a m\u00e1s metilaci\u00f3n del ADN, m\u00e1s silenciamiento gen\u00e9tico\u2019 no siempre se cumple, desconcertando a los investigadores.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora,\u00a0un nuevo estudio, publicado en Epigenetics &amp; Chromatin, investigadores del Instituto de Ciencias del Mar (ICM-CSIC) y del Centro Nacional de An\u00e1lisis Gen\u00f3mico (CNAG-CRG), revelan que la regi\u00f3n del ADN correspondiente al primer intr\u00f3n, es m\u00e1s informativa y consistente que la regi\u00f3n promotora para determinar la relaci\u00f3n inversa entre metilaci\u00f3n y la expresi\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica. Anna Esteve-Codina, analista de datos del grupo\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnag.crg.eu\/teams\/bioinformatics-unit\/functional-genomics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gen\u00f3mica Funcional<\/a> del CNAG-CRG es una de las coautoras del art\u00edculo, que ha sido dirigido por Francesc Piferrer, profesor de Investigaci\u00f3n en el ICM-CSIC y cuenta como primera autora con la investigadora del centro Dafni Anastasiadi.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abDesde el CNAG-CRG hemos analizado los datos de secuenciaci\u00f3n del ARN y ayudado en la interpretaci\u00f3n de la integraci\u00f3n de los datos de expresi\u00f3n con los datos epigen\u00f2miques. El hecho de que la metilaci\u00f3n del primer intr\u00f3n est\u00e9 ligado a la expresi\u00f3n del gen, puede ser una indicaci\u00f3n de que en este haya marcas de regulaci\u00f3n que modulan la expresi\u00f3n del gen independientemente del promotor, que es la zona que se hab\u00eda estudiado en expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica hasta ahora\u00bb, explica Ana Esteve-Codina.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>Un mecanismo universal en vertebrados<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Este hallazgo se ha realizado comparando metilaci\u00f3n y expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica en tejidos de lubina de muy distinta complejidad celular y transcript\u00f3mica. El estudio muestra que este mecanismo es universal, al menos en los vertebrados, ya que, adem\u00e1s de los tejidos de lubina se analizaron tejidos de otros peces, anfibios e incluso tejidos humanos, obteniendo el mismo resultado: la regi\u00f3n del primer intr\u00f3n es informativa y m\u00e1s consistente que la regi\u00f3n promotora para determinar la expresi\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica.<\/p>\n<p>Estos resultados, por su universalidad, tienen aplicaci\u00f3n en otros campos de investigaci\u00f3n en epigen\u00e9tica, como el estudio de la respuesta de los organismos a cambios ambientales \u2014la epigen\u00f3mica ambiental y en particular la marina se considera un campo de investigaci\u00f3n con mucha proyecci\u00f3n futura\u2014, la biolog\u00eda del desarrollo y los cambios epigen\u00e9ticos asociados a la aparici\u00f3n de procesos relacionados con el c\u00e1ncer.
