Analizando muestras del tejido cerebral post mortem de pacientes con Parkinson se sab\u00eda que sus astrocitos mostraban una acumulaci\u00f3n anormal de \u03b1-sinucle\u00edna. Sin embargo, esto era interpretado por la mayor\u00eda de los investigadores como una respuesta secundaria, como si los astrocitos estuvieran tratando de eliminar los agregados de sinucle\u00edna \u03b1 de las neuronas.<\/p>\n<p>En vista de estos trabajos previos, los investigadores decidieron desarrollar un nuevo sistema de cultivo celular a partir de c\u00e9lulas humanas. Usando c\u00e9lulas derivadas de pacientes (iPSC) de Parkinson con una mutaci\u00f3n LRRK2, y en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Dr. Tolosa de la Unidad de Trastornos del Movimiento en el Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona, los investigadores generaron c\u00e9lulas gl\u00eda derivadas de c\u00e9lulas madre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Los astrocitos estudiados, derivados de pacientes con enfermedad de Parkinson con una mutaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica, generaron m\u00e1s acumulaci\u00f3n de una toxina llamada \u03b1 -sinucle\u00edna que los derivados de individuos sanos. El trabajo, que se public\u00f3 el 10 de enero en la revista Stem Cell Reports, sugiere un papel importante de las c\u00e9lulas gliales en la enfermedad de Parkinson y propone posibles nuevas dianas terap\u00e9uticas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abNuestros resultados cambian completamente nuestra visi\u00f3n anterior de la participaci\u00f3n de los astrocitos en la enfermedad de Parkinson. De verlos como c\u00e9lulas espectadoras principalmente con un rol protector temprano, hemos pasado a considerarlas jugadores cr\u00edticos que propagan la enfermedad y amplifican el grado de degeneraci\u00f3n neuronal\u00bb, explica Consiglio, investigadora del IBUB, del IDIBELL y de\u00a0la\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/medicina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener
