La senescencia es un programa celular que se desencadena por m\u00faltiples tipos de da\u00f1os y las c\u00e9lulas senescentes est\u00e1n presentes en muchas enfermedades y se acumulan en una gran variedad de tejidos durante el envejecimiento, participando en su deterioro. Eliminarlas es uno de los desaf\u00edos de la ciencia.<\/p>\n<p>En el laboratorio de \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irbbarcelona.org\/es\/research\/cellular-plasticity-and-disease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Plasticidad celular y enfermedad<\/a>\u201d liderado por el investigador ICREA\u00a0Manuel Serrano en\u00a0el Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica (IRB Barcelona), que cuenta con el impulso de la\u00a0Fundaci\u00f3n Bancaria \u201cla Caixa\u201d, dise\u00f1an estrategias para eliminar las c\u00e9lulas senescentes. En un estudio publicado en\u00a0EMBO Molecular Medicine\u00a0presentan una prueba de principio de un\u00a0m\u00e9todo de encapsulaci\u00f3n que permite administrar medicamentos de manera preferente en tejidos que contienen c\u00e9lulas senescentes.<\/p>\n<p>Los investigadores del IRB Barcelona, junto con el equipo de Ram\u00f3n Mart\u00ednez-M\u00e1\u00f1ez de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Valencia y el CIBER de Bioingenier\u00eda, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina (CIBER-BBN), han aprovechado una caracter\u00edstica espec\u00edfica de las c\u00e9lulas senescentes para dise\u00f1ar un veh\u00edculo que se dirija especialmente hacia ellas. Han demostrado su eficacia en c\u00e9lulas\u00a0in vitro\u00a0y en dos modelos experimentales de rat\u00f3n, uno de fibrosis pulmonar y otro de c\u00e1ncer. Estas enfermedades se caracterizan por una elevada presencia de c\u00e9lulas da\u00f1adas, en especial los c\u00e1nceres tratados con quimioterapia.<\/p>\n<p>Comprueban que las c\u00e9lulas senescentes apresan el veh\u00edculo m\u00e1s eficientemente que el resto de c\u00e9lulas y, una vez dentro, degradan la carcasa liberando el f\u00e1rmaco. Cuando el nanoveh\u00edculo contiene f\u00e1rmacos citot\u00f3xicos, las c\u00e9lulas senescentes son eliminadas y observan una mejora terap\u00e9utica en los ratones con fibrosis pulmonar o con c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEste nanoveh\u00edculo puede abrir nuevas oportunidades terap\u00e9uticas para enfermedades graves, como la fibrosis pulmonar o para eliminar la senescencia generada por los tratamientos quimioterap\u00e9uticos contra el c\u00e1ncer\u201d,\u00a0se\u00f1ala\u00a0Manuel Serrano.
