Today, the Barcelona Science Park awarded the prizes for the 19th edition of BATX2LAB<\/a>, the research work tutoring program for high school students, in which more than 100 people have participated, including students, teachers of the teaching centres and research staff of the PCB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this edition, from 179 applications received to participate in the program, 40 students were selected. The prizes for the best research works \u2013a scape room and two guided tours in emblematic buildings related to science\u2013 have been for:<\/p>\n

-Sara Gannou Agadou<\/strong>,\u00a0from the school Joanot Martorell<\/a>, for the work \u201cLa senesc\u00e8ncia cel\u00b7lular\u201d. Tutor of the academic center: Andreu Moncl\u00fas. Tutor of PCB: Ramiro Illanes from the IBMB-CSIC.<\/p>\n

Laura Vidal Corominas <\/strong>i Martina Tost Rius<\/strong>, from the Instituci\u00f3 cultural CIC<\/a>, for the work \u201cQue faig per a deixar el meu genoll com nou?\u201d. Tutors of the academic centre: Irene Fraile and Noelia Teruel. Tutor of PCB: Valentina Ramponi from the IRB Barcelona.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by\u00a0Maria Terrades<\/strong>, CEO of the Barcelona Science Park; Gijs Jochems<\/strong>, general manager of\u00a0Promega Biotech Ib\u00e9rica<\/a>, and\u00a0Josep M. Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, professor of Biology at the\u00a0University of Barcelona (UB)<\/a>\u00a0and collaborator of the BATX2LAB. They were also joined by the students and tutors who participated in this edition.<\/p>\n

During the meeting,\u00a0Gijs Jochems<\/strong> gave a talk on career opportunities related to STEM careers.<\/p>\n

Cristina Lamp\u00f3n<\/strong>\u2013industrial engineer and member of Big Van Ciencia<\/a>\u2013 has enlivened the event with the scientific monologue \u201cClose the loop\u201d to disseminate the research in a playful and very attractive way.<\/p>\n

Promoting scientific careers<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Barcelona Science Park is stepping up its commitment to persuading young people to choose STEM careers by holding a new edition of the BATX2LAB featuring fresh options that add value and bring science to life.<\/p>\n

The programme offers students in the first year of upper secondary school, the chance to do the practical part of their research project in the PCB laboratories, where they are tutored by scientifics from centres and companies in the health sector. In this 2020-2021 academic year have participated the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the Institute for Molecular Biology of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC), the Centro Nacional de An\u00e1lisis Gen\u00f3mico (CNAG) and the Science and Technology Centres of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB), DTI Foundation and the PCB\u2019s Proteomics Platform.<\/p>\n

BATX2LAB is part of\u00a0Research in Society\u00a0<\/a>programme, the Barcelona Science Park\u2019s initiative to foster dialogue between the public and research staff and encourage young people to pursue a career in science.<\/p>\n

In 2016, the programme has been awarded with the\u00a0Educational Quality Label\u00a0from Barcelona\u2019s Pedagogical Coordination Council (CCP) set up by the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education (IMEB), and in 2018, with the\u00a0Barcelona City Council Educational Innovation Award, which recognises teaching innovation initiatives carried out in the city to promote training opportunities and social inclusion.<\/p>\n

BATX2LAB is backed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT<\/a>) from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and\u00a0the\u00a0Barcelona City Council<\/a>\u00a0and, in this edition, also from Promega Biotech Ib\u00e9rica, through its Social Responsibility programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
