The femtech startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/en\/empresa\/mimark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MiMARK<\/a>, based at the Barcelona Science Park, that will revolutionize the diagnosis of endometrial cancer with a minimally invasive IVD test, is just one of the many examples of EIT Health-backed solutions that shift the dial from a traditional, treatment-based healthcare model to a preventative model.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>EIT Health began its support for MiMARK during the <a href=\"https:\/\/eithealth.eu\/news-article\/eit-health-invests-e3m-in-cancer-and-parkinsons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 WildCard Programme<\/a>. In June 2022, MiMARK reached the semi-finals of the <a href=\"https:\/\/eithealth.eu\/news-article\/42-start-ups-catapult-2022-23-semifinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EIT Health Catapult 2022-23<\/a>, a competition showcasing Europe\u2019s most promising biotech, medtech and digital health start-ups to leading experts and investors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEIT Health\u2019s support for start-ups offering progressive models of healthcare delivery such as ours is critical in reimagining our hEl primerealthcare system and building a model rooted in efficient and accurate diagnosis. By removing the need for invasive biopsies (hysteroscopies), MiMARK is reimagining gynaecological diagnostics \u2013 and women\u2019s healthcare &#8211; as we know it. The start-up\u2019s first in vitro diagnostic test \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mimark.es\/#womec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WomEC<\/a>\u2013 uses a panel of protein biomarkers present in uterine fluids to detect endometrial cancer, thereby avoiding invasive hysteroscopies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur solution has the potential to transform how we deliver care for endometrial cancer. Not only does our innovation offer a means of detecting endometrial cancer accurately in its early stages, but it does so in a way that elevates women\u2019s experience of care \u2013 by offering an effective, objective, non-invasive alternative to hysteroscopies\u201d, explains <strong>Marina Rigau<\/strong>, CEO and co-founder of MiMARK.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth most prevalent cancer and the sixth most fatal, endometrial cancer can be painful and isolating for women worldwide. Too often, women seeking treatment for abnormal vaginal bleeding and endometrial diagnosis are subject to examination processes of an endometrial biopsy.
