The prizes for the best research works \u2013a scape room and two guided tours in emblematic buildings related to science\u2013 have been for:<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Joana Cuartiella Mayordomo<\/strong>, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/sunion.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Escola S\u00fanion<\/a>, for the work \u201cL\u2019epigen\u00e8tica. Pot ser l\u2019editora del genoma per la cura del c\u00e0ncer?\u201d. Tutor of the academic center: Sebasti\u00e0 Benejam. Tutor of PCB: Alba Milan\u00e9s (IRB Barcelona).<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Maria Guix Legaz,<\/strong> from the school <a href=\"https:\/\/padredamiansscc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Padre Dami\u00e1n Sagrados Corazones<\/a> for the work \u201cLa s\u00edndrome X Fr\u00e0gil. Una malaltia gen\u00e8tica\u201d. Tutor of the academic centre: Chesca Marf\u00e0. Tutor of PCB: Marta Lovera (IRB Barcelona).<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Roser Mayol Alcaraz,\u00a0<\/strong>from the <a href=\"https:\/\/escola-proa.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Escola Proa<\/a> for the work \u201cViatge cient\u00edfic per un univers diminut (nanotecnologia)\u201d. Tutor of the academic centre: Juan Jos\u00e9 L\u00f3pez. Tutor of PCB: Jordi D\u00edaz (Science and Technology Centres of the University of Barcelona, CCiTUB).<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by\u00a0<strong>Maria Terrades<\/strong>, director of the Barcelona Science Park;\u00a0<strong>Gijs Jochems<\/strong>, general manager of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.promega.es\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Promega Biotech Ib\u00e9rica<\/a>, and\u00a0<strong>Josep M. Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, professor of Biology at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/web\/portal\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Barcelona (UB)<\/a> and collaborator of the BATX2LAB. They were also joined by the students and tutors who participated in this edition.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting,<strong> Gijs Jochems<\/strong> gave a talk on career opportunities related to STEM careers, and <strong>Jorge Nicol\u00e1s-Alvarez<\/strong> \u2013aeronautical engineer, member of <a href=\"http:\/\/bigvanciencia.com\/eng\/big-van-scientists-on-wheels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Big Van Ciencia<\/a>\u2013 has enlivened the event with the scientific monologue \u201cA detail to colonize Mars\u201d to disseminate the research in a playful and very attractive way.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Promoting scientific careers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Barcelona Science Park is stepping up its commitment to persuading young people to choose STEM careers by holding a new edition of the BATX2LAB featuring fresh options that add value and bring science to life.<\/p>\n<p>The programme offers students in the first year of upper secondary school, the chance to do the practical part of their research project in the PCB laboratories, where they are tutored by scientifics from centres and companies in the health sector. In this 2020-2021 academic year have participated the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), the Institute for Molecular Biology of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC), the Centro Nacional de An\u00e1lisis Gen\u00f3mico (CNAG) and the Science and Technology Centres of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB), DTI Foundation and the PCB&#8217;s Proteomics Platform.<\/p>\n<p>BATX2LAB is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/recercaensocietat.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research in Society <\/a>programme, the Barcelona Science Park\u2019s initiative to foster dialogue between the public and research staff and encourage young people to pursue a career in science.
