The board of\u00a0La Marat\u00f3\u00a0has granted 300,000\u20ac for this project, which will be coordinated together with\u00a0Dr. Sonia Fern\u00e1ndez Velado\u00a0at the\u00a0Hospital Universitario Joan XXIII, Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Sanitaria Pere Virgili de Reus.<\/p>\n<p>Joan J. Guinovart\u00a0will lead the project &#8220;Liver glycogen, a novel target to treat diabetes and obesity &#8220;, which has received 200,000 \u20ac. Members of his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irbbarcelona.org\/en\/research\/metabolic-engineering-and-diabetes-therapy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Metabolic Engineering and Therapy Lab<\/a>\u00a0at IRB Barcelona will be involved in this research.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2005, the year IRB Barcelona was founded, scientists at the centre have been awarded funding for 21 projects. Of these, six are still underway\u2014four on cancer and two on neurodegenerative disease.
