Proof of this is that the European Union (EU) has granted during the last months the coordination of three European projects to the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) to continue combining medicine, science and technology with the aim of improving people\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>The first one is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brighterproject.eu\/\" style=\"font-weight: 200\">BRIGHTER<\/a>\u00a0project that is led by Professor Elena Mart\u00ednez, the head of the \u2018Biomimetic Systems for Cell Engineering\u2019 group. The EU has contributed to this initiative that will be used by the consortium partners to develop an innovative high resolution 3D bioprinting technology able to fabricate 3D cell culture substrates which could be useful to produce artificial organs in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The second initiative is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blocproject.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">BLOC<\/a>, project, which is led by the ICREA Research Professor and Group Leader Javier Ram\u00f3n and the Postdoctoral Researcher Irene Marco, both of the \u2018Biosensors for Bioengineering\u2019 group. The EU is backing this collaborative Project that will be devoted to design a new technology capable of monitoring metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and to assess the response to some drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nangioderm.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">nAngioDerm<\/a>\u00a0project, IBEC and their international partners will promote the development of new techniques for skin regeneration using nanoparticles. This initiative coordinated by Professor Elisabeth Engel, principal investigator of the \u2018Biomaterials for regenerative therapies\u2019 group at IBEC, is specifically focused in regenerating the tissue of chronic wounds and skin burns.<\/p>\n<p>IBEC will be involved in these projects until 2022, but during this time the Institute will also continue to coordinate another European projects that have been ongoing for some time: <a href=\"http:\/\/mechanocontrol.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"font-weight: 200\" target=\"_blank\">Mechanocontrol<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theracat.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"font-weight: 200\" target=\"_blank\">Theracat<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isglobal.org\/en\/-\/nanopheles\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"font-weight: 200\" target=\"_blank\">NANOpheles<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spm20.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"font-weight: 200\" target=\"_blank\">SPM2.0<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rgs-at-home.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"font-weight: 200\" target=\"_blank\">RGS@Home<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/attract-eu.com\/selected-projects\/metabolic-profiling-of-in-vitro-fertilization-embryos-using-hyspectral-imaging-hysplant\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"font-weight: 200\" target=\"_blank\">Hysplant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, IBEC has more than 300 researchers, eight of whom belong to the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), considered the elite of research in Catalonia.
