The \u00a0inaugural ceremony\u00a0of the Science Week was chaired by the President of the Catalan Parliament, Carme Forcadell, and was attended by Lluis Jofre,\u00a0Secretary\u00a0of\u00a0Universities\u00a0and Research of the Catalan Government; Enric Banda, member of the Board of FCRi\u00a0and Joandom\u00e8nech Ros,\u00a0President of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC). Dr. Romain Quidant,\u00a0ICREA research professor\u00a0at the Institute of Photonic Sciences\u00a0(ICFO),\u00a0delivered the inaugural conference\u00a0Nanophotonics and health: opening new perspectives for early diagnosis and treatments less invasive<\/em>.

Science Week at\u00a0UB<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Barcelona University is joining in the celebration of the 20th Science Week with multiple activities, coordinated by Josep Barbosa, Professor at the Department of Analytical Chemistry. Some of these events are a scientific video exhibition, the activity \u201cLa qu\u00edmica i el vi\u201d \u2013that plans a guided tour to a cellar and a wine tasting at Poboleda (Priorat)\u2013, \u00a0a master class on Science and Cooking at the\u00a0Food and Nutrition Campus of the UB and another activities aimed at high school students. \n20 years of Outreach<\/strong><\/p>\n

2015 marks 20 years of Science Week; a national and annual event that\u00a0offers a programme of more than 350 activities designed to share scientific knowledge from all over Catalonia.\u00a0It involves around 150 organisations from the research community, including universities, research centres, museums, associations and companies, and attracts a great deal of media attention.<\/div>\n

Science Week 2015\u00a0focuses on light\u00a0as this year is the International Year of Light and light-based technology. The event, coordinated by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi<\/a>),\u00a0will take place from 13 to 22 November and will host more than 300 different multidisplinary science and technology dissemination activities. SC\u201915 has the support of nearly 100 institutions and agencies of the Catalan system of research and innovation, most notably the University of Barcelona (UB)<\/a> and the Catalan Institute for Bioengineering (IBEC<\/a>) that which will be offering a unique scientific workshop at its premises located at Barcelona Science Park\u00a0(PCB).<\/p>\n
